Stomach so confused - 5 days postop

Recommended Posts

I'm 7 days post op and I am SO over this liquid diet! I could stand the shakes my nutritionist told me to drink, so I did some research and found some that aren't too bad! Isopure shakes are sugar free, 40 grams of Protein in one 20oz bottle! They make this liquid diet a little more bearable.

I haven't even had my first consultation (which will be October 1) and I already bought 3 cases online of Isopure so I'm happy to hear you say this :)

I am 9 days out and pretty much living on Jello, creme/broth Soups, thinned pudding, and thinned yogurt/kefir. Am finding the Protein shakes give me terrible gas, so I am sneaking a couple of tablespoons of unflavored Isopure Protein Powder into as much as I can and it seems to be sitting okay. Herbal teas seem to be sitting well. My stomach feels different when it is thirsty from when it is hungry - and my middle ear feels different when I am thirsty (weird). Not experiencing a lot of head hunger, but since my husband had the sleeve 3 years ago he is being really good about not making foods that would trigger issues while I am recovering from my surgery. Eating/drinking as such frequent intervals is a big shift, but I think that will phase back once I am actually getting some nutrition out of what I am eating.

Sounds like you are learning what works for you. I am doing the same. I am preparing some pureed meals and I am enjoying it. It's crazy because I have already started going back to work. My pureed food is really good, but I only warm it up when no one is around. I think I would die if someone looked over my shoulder thinking they would see some food and see something that looks like it was prepared for a baby. Lol! Yeah I am keeping my journey on the low. I am looking for a new job anyways, so I would rather keep my business to myself.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
