1/4 cup for life?

Recommended Posts

Ok. I'm 6 weeks out. Only on solid food for 2 weeks. Here is a typical day for me....

Greek yogurt

2hrs later a soft egg

2hrs later a deli slice of smoked turkey and a cheese stick

2hrs later 1/3 cup tuna salad

2hrs later laughing cow cheese wedge with a tablespoon of simply fruit spread

2hrs later a veggie burger pattie....not all of it

Water in between these mini meals

Is this it? I have no problem eating small meals forever. Not at all. My issue is that after everyone of my mini meals listed above I feel full. Again...its fine....for now.

Will I ever be able to eat more than 1/4 c of food? I cant fit in veggies with my Protein at this point. Will it get better as I go along?

Well, if you ate 1/3 cup of tuna, that's more than 1/4! :D

Yes, your restriction should loosen up but per my NUT, you should reach maximum capacity. I can eat about 1/2 cup or so, but my restriction seems to be tighter than most.

My NUT said that we are never to eat more than 1 cup at a time for the rest of our lives.

I am almost 8 wks out and I can eat about 3/4 cup of soft foods. My favorite "meal" is 3 slices of deli sliced turkey or chicken breast rolled up with a slice of cheese in the middle. Fills me up and i can eat on the go. Every now and then i eat a tiny bit of mashed potatoes w/gravy and some meatloaf or whatever kind of meat.for dinner. I am mostly eating meat for Protein to see if I can get my weight loss moving.

The only thing I miss and having trouble getting used to is drinking while I am eating or right after because sometimes I get really thirsty.

The folks i am acquainted with tell me to have patience, the weight will go.

Last night i went to Dickie's Bar B Que with my family and ate mostly chicken with a tiny bit of mashed potatoes but I was a little frustrated because it smelled so good but I was feeling stuffed.

If losing weight and keeping it off means this is the way I will have to eat the rest of my life then so be it.Now I can fit in a booth at a restaurant, don't mind going out in public, and shopping for clothes is actually fun instead of frustrating, just to name a few things i am thrilled with.

Best trade off I've ever made.

:D

Oh Mick, all that sounds so delicious to me (I'm 5 days post op & start puréed on Tuesday)! Can't wait to be through the stages!

At that stage I loved cooked chicken breast pureed with chicken broth (Better than Bouillon). It was so delicious! My wife got me these tiny little baby spoons and each little bite was just sooooo good!

These stages go by pretty fast, looking back. Just remember that you are letting your stomach heal right now. Don't rush it or get discouraged. Let it heal real good and then you will learn how and what you can eat. Everyone is a little different.

My written instructions were pretty slim but the words "as tolerated" gave me something to work with. :)

Hey Mick, why frustrated? You got to enjoy a favorite food, you were sated by a smaller amount than before, so you did your body good, no guilt like before, right? Now it's more about quality than quantity. But I hear you, I'm battling those old demons myself. Keep up the good work.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
