Looking for recommendations in Seattle, WA area

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm just beginning my physician/surgery center choice, so need input on who's good, and who to stay away from.

My insurance doesn't cover WLS, so I'll be self pay. That is helpful in my choice, but I also have no idea where to start.

Not sure about lap band or gastric bypass.

Dr. Neal, in Olympia? University of Washongton? Virginia Mason? Franciscan Health?

Please help!!

I was banded by Dr. Neal almost 3 yrs ago, he's the best ! I give him and his staff an A+ !!! I only had to visit his Olympia office for the pre surgery visit, the surgery was at Harrison Hosp in Silverdale, close to where I live, fills at the Bremerton office. I highly recommend him and his team ! Good luck !!

I had the vertical sleeve by Dr. Hunter at Virginia Mason. I have been thrilled with their level of professional care and Dr. Hunter is an incredible surgeon with top notch credentials and reviews. His entire staff is awesome, and I can't recommend them enough!

I just had my surgery done with Dr. Dormant who practices out of St. Francis (Federal Way) and Evergreen (in Kirkland). The pre-op care and testing is fabulous and I've heard nothing but great things from his patients. I'm also a patient with Virginia Mason (primary) and wasn't as impressed with their bariatric reviews or the overall care I get from them on a normal basis. Plus I wanted the Duodenal Switch and they don't do it.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
