10 month Post op - the whole story possible tmi

Recommended Posts

It's funny because a lot of people look at my experience and think "that's awful" and get scared by it. I would not change it. I have no fear of "failure" that so many people talk of because of how sensitive my stomach is. I can eat the absolute worst that my body will let me and I won't gain weight. So many people talk about this being a tool and I totally agree but I have been fortunate enough to have an incredible sensitive sleeve and I LOVE it. It is about as close to a "cure" for me as I could possibly get! I LOVE MY PUKE-INESS!!!! I will tell you it is 100% worth any misery you may experience. Incision pain will go away, nausea will at least become more manageable. You learn to adapt to the way you can eat and will learn to love NOT thinking about food all the time! Granted there are people with post-op complications and my heart goes out to them... that's a whole other ball game.

Hi Megan,

You look awesome! So sorry you had some bad experiences in the beginning. I'm so glad you didn't let that stop you from pushing forward.

I never heard of smelling. It's never been mentioned at my support group meetings. Can others smell you? I've been in public and have crossed paths with obesity people that smell extremely bad. I always thought it was because of their excess skin. I have an apron and not only use my deodorant under my arms but my breasts, and stomach. I'm so afraid of smelling.

You endured a lot. I hope things continue to become easier for you!

Thank you for sharing.

AMAZING! Thank you for sharing your story. I'm 9 days post op and feel great. I know I'm lucky. I was able to walk several laps around the hospital the night of surgery. I'm looking forward what the future holds and your story has inspired me!

You and I sounds like the same person! I have many of the same reasons for wanting the surgery. To be able to do more of what I already do, with less sweating, heavy breathing and feeling like the fattest mom in the room. I hope I can be as successful as you. You look amazing!

You were beautiful before and after. I bet it feels so good to be "normal". I always feel like people are looking at me and thinking how fat I am. My surgery is set for October 14th. I go do all my pre op stuff tomorrow. I am very nervous. Thanks so much for sharing. It helps to know what to expect.

Your story is very similar to mine. I had surg march 11. As of today, 9/26 I am down 100 lbs. I'm getting worried actually. I'm lucky if I get down 10 bites of food a day. Nothing tastes good. I sip Water throughout the day at work snd it too makes me nauseous. I miss eating, honestly. But, I am only 47 and my dr told me if I didn't lose the weight I was going to hsve a stroke or heart attack. My BP was 200 / 110 pretty consistently and no mstter how dr tweaked my meds, we couldn't get it back down into a healthy range. It was my son who encouraged me the most. I'm happy I had the surgery. If I'd known then what I know now, not too sure I'd go through with it. Most days I feel grest. Honestly, I look amazing. Some days I have to do a double take in the mirror. People I haven't seen since before surgery don't recognise me. It is also awesome to be able to shop and not get depressed because nothing fits or it all looks terrible. And you're right about the feelings of embarrassment. I hated being the fat lady.

Thanks for sharing your story. Honestly, it was like resding my own. And you do look incredible. The happiness and peace is in your smile. Keep up the great work snd keep us posted on your progress.

I found quite a few posts on here about it actually. It's all about sugar/calorie intake. It's not the same smell that some of the really large people get. It smells nothing like regular BO and isn't even musty smelling. For me it was this weird bitter smell. My husband claimed he didn't notice unless I stuck my skin up against his face but I swear I smelled it any time I moved. It was my whole body, not just armpits, under breasts or anything. My forearms even smelled. it was weird.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
