I think in the next week we should start our post op page. That way once someone finishes surgery they can move over to the post op page! Also, what is everyone's goal for after surgery? What size/weight do you hope to end up as? What are some nsv's do you hope to accomplish?

I talked to my doctor's office this morning, they said no Protein for the two days, of course. After surgery, they don't have you start on Protein until the 4th day, either. Guess the two days before is to get your stomach used to it prior to surgery. I will only be working on clear liquids/ broth for the three days post surgery also. ARGHHH!

Yeah my doc's post-op diet has me on Clear liquids for over a week - no protein just Water and clear stuff like sf Jello, sf pops, and chicken stock.

It's weird- I'm seven days out of surgery and I feel pretty great despite no real protein or calories for a week. No headaches, no weakness, just enjoying my recovery time and my walks! Wednesday I start protein powders if my doctor clears me. :)

I was given heparin at surgery time to help avoid possible blood clots later. Apparently it was too much and I bled a bunch. Started passing blood thru my bowels. Bruised at every site I was pinched poked pierced or prodded. This caused me to faint upon standing. Much better now.

Yikes! I'm glad you are okay. Did they proceed with the surgery?

Karen--So glad you popped in! I was wondering how you were doing.21 pounds down?! That's awesome girl!!! Whoohoo!!!

I wonder what's up with your enhanced smelling. I have not heard of that before.

So at 2 weeks, what are you eating? How much are you able to eat at a time? Are you having a hard time getting in your Water to stay hydrated.

I became dehydrated after my lap band surgery back in 2008. That was a horrible feeling. Got 2 bags of Fluid put in and felt like a new person.

Wahoo on the 21lbs loss. That's great. I have decided to not weigh myself until Thursday. So far I'm down to 235lbs as of yesterday, which puts me 15 lbs under my highest weight but not much down from pre op weight. I'm a revision so I might just end up losing slower, we'll see.

What do they do at the pre op physical?

They weighed me , took my height, took a urine sample, checked my heart, vital signs like blood pressure, temp, lungs, reflexes, liver, and took blood samples. That was it, quick and easy. Just like a yearly exam

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
