Hey!! I am having surgery on the 23rd. (My 18yr wedding anniversary. Oops!) I will start the two week diet this Thursday. One week of 4 Protein Snacks plus a lean and green dinner and then one week of protien shakes 5x day. I am addicted to diet cokes, so I will miss those soo much, but I've already gone on caffeine free to ease the headaches I know I'll get also bc of the lack of sugar. I am so excited to read all of you guys' comments! I am a mother of three girls, ages 20, 17, and 16.

Hello Tacycakes my PreOp is 4 to 5 Protein Drinks & 1 cup of veggies a day @ 1,000 calories a day 50% protein & no more than 35 grams of Fat a day. Getting in the Protein first makes all the difference plus Water in dealing with hunger & fatigue. I am drinking bet 45 to 50 ounces of water trying to get as close as possible to 64 oz. You'll be fine with PreOp! Welcome to October!

Yes, my Dr. had mentioned that I would probably be going home with a drain. But my Aunt told me they removed hers before she left the hospital. I had a catheter also after I had lap band surgery (back in 2008). I don't know what determines if they just do a catheter during surgery and remove it before you're awake....or if they just leave it in until later. Ugh, I hate catheters.

Amylynns Im so not looking forward to the catheter I had forgotten till AuriP mentioned it.

Hey Jyoyonomore! I don't get any "food" on my 2 week liquid diet. I guess I could count Jello as "food," But that's it. I have to get at least 30g of protein, 96 oz of Fluid a day. 1000 calories. 100 grams of carbs. I can have unlimited amount of sugar free drinks/jello---but my body doesn't like sugar free, so I have to keep that to a limited amount.

We'll see how it goes! :-)

Um, I would like it better if I could see posts while I'm writing so I don't forget what I want to respond to. :( anyway, thank you both amylynns and jyoyonomore for welcoming me. My doctor didn't say a word about calories to me bc they have you buy a presurgery kit with the necessary "food". For the protien Snacks it's protien chips twice a day and protien bars twice a day and then the regular dinner. 60 G protein/ 64 oz Water. The water will be the toughest part. I want to gag when I drink water but I'm gonna have to get over that quickly. It also makes me feel sloshy and kind of queasy for the first week on any of my previous diets. I was looking at Auris pictures, and we have the same shape.

Tacycakes Re Water I am already up too many times in the night no matter if I start my liquids at 8am or 10am. I also find using a water bottle with a built in straw is my best tool. I'm concerned about having to give up straws for PostOp so I'm starting to get away from using the straw this week. For me it's all about putting things in place now to get my brain ready for the transition. Based on reading a couple of books and all the posts on BP I know for me 1/2 of my success will be based on getting my brain Right for this amazing opportunity to reset my body for better health. & yes ...... Giving away 4 sizes of pants LOL!

LOL--I don't usually have too hard of time drinking a lot of Water, and some of that 96oz can be 100% juice, coffee (de-caf) or tea.

16oz of it should be something with a lot of potassium. So Tomato juice or OJ. I'm going to try an "Orange Julius" drink they recommended for Breakfast.< /p>

Oh--and Protein Shakes too.

I can have broth too. I can mix tomato juice with it to make a "soup."

@@tacycakes I don't think the Catheter is as much pain as it is this weird sensation. (I've had two c-sections). I'm 5'4 started at 303lbs in May. I'm at 286.4 now did a semi liquid diet last week with maybe a total of four solid meals last week. Tomorrow is the start of my official pre-op liquid diet. I used this week to see what Protein drinks worked bet for me. post-234841-14125635388343_thumb.jpgbut I also ordered the GENEPRO. This a vegan protein Meal Replacement made from sprouted brown rice and others. If you let it sit for a bit it gets this gloopy cream of wheat consistency which I actually prefer.

My surgery is on Columbus Day, the 13th. So close. I have average anxiety. I just feel like I need to have everything cleaned up before it. I've been quite fatalistic as of late.

Oh layknee, you've done great so far, losing so much from May. And yes, getting things in order... That is very important. Like nesting before having a baby. You've got to get ur brain on board with what your body will naturally do. I've heard it said in support group that it's a shame they don't do the surgery on your brain instead because it's totally a mind game to get your head wrapped around it all. Like when you get used to one stage, It sort of changes. I think we have to be adaptable and willing to let ourselves change. I know there will be many stages. Going to the gym routinely will def be a life changer for me. We will just lend strength to each other. I'm going to need it for sure. I'm so glad I found you ladies.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
