Worried I'm hungry! ONE WEEK OUT

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I feel like I've been hungry since day 3 post op. One week out I can eat 5 oz of cream Soup and 4 oz of Greek yogurt in one meal, no problem. Is this normal at one week out? I'm following my stages of food. Just went one week with liquids only. I sometimes feel my stomach rumble and it feels like hunger pains to me.

Will I feel restriction once I start eating more regular foods? I have the sleeve.

It's probably gas and/or acid pains. Your new stomach is very much in a healing stage, and mine still makes all kinds of noises. You could also be thirsty, thirst can mimic hunger pains. Are you on a PPI?

I also wouldn't worry about being able to consume 5 oz. of liquids at this point. Your full feelings won't really be that noticeable until you move on to soft foods. Liquids and pureed foods are more of a slider, they just move right on through and don't really fill up much.

I just got home form surgery and was told to take my PPis daily because the acid gets confused as hunger. I am not sure of how much you should be eating as I am still only able to take small sips but myself.

Totally agree with Sleevarella. I felt the same hunger pains in the beginning and it drove me crazy. I knew it was a false reading.

Your tummy is still healing and you will not feel much of a restriction now. But wait until you get to eat real foods. It is a totally different ball game. Make sure to stick with your NUT's plan and stop when you are satisfied.

@Sleevarella: Awesome weight lose!

Your stomach is a funnel for liquids, creams, purees, yogurts. They all move through very rapidly. You will not feel real restriction until soft/ normal food phases, so make sure to follow your diet plan.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
