Dr Rodolfo Wilhelmy in Mexicali, Mexico

Recommended Posts

I want to share my experience with Dr. Wilhelmy in Mexico, Mexico. I had my sleeve surgery almost a month and a half ago and since have gotten a number of people contacting me with questions and my surgery experience which I am happy to share!

I have to say that I had already been to Almater Hospital in Mexicali last year when my mom had her sleeve done. I was her companion and we were pretty nervous that time but her surgeon came highly recommended so we went. Everything that time was really exceptional, we were met at the airport in San Diego by Ernesto the driver and we were taken to the hospital to meet with the doctors and haver her tests done. I was immediately impressed with the hospital and with the staff taking care of us. We met the surgeon and other doctors the morning of surgery. The hospital is spotless and house keeping cleans all day long. The doctors visited her 2-3 times a day and she was checked on, had tests daily and really kept her moving to help her recovery along. A really wonderful experience.

My mom had already lost close to 100 lbs when I decided I wanted to have surgery too. I had my surgery August of this year and Dr. Wilhemly was my surgeon.

I am very very pleased with the entire experience once again, the level of care is outstanding. I already knew all the staff but was the first time meeting my surgeon. He is a very nice and caring man, his bed side manner is wonderful. He also visited me daily, all post op tests were done by Dr. Campos just like when my mom was there earlier and I got to meet Dr. Beltran who I had not met on the first trip there. I can recommend Dr. wilhelmy and the entire staff at Mexicali Bariatric Center without hesitation.

I am 40 lbs less since my pre op diet and 34.5 since my surgery. I have not had any problems and am very happy to have had my sleeve done. I have already recommended Dr Wilhelmy to several friends and they are looking into it. I rate this surgeon and hospital with 5 stars !

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
