#9grammy 274 Posted September 17, 2014 I'm taking Biotin, can get it at Walmart. I take 2 every day since I started this journey back. In May. I'm really hoping it works, plus I take 2 flinstone with Iron Vitamins everyday. My hairdresser recommend the biotin and to start on it soon because it takes a few months to get it going in your system. My hair grows faster, still have normal Hair loss after shampooing, but I have to color sooner also
butterfyeffect 257 Posted September 17, 2014 I had my surgery on May 6th, so similar timing to yours. I did have hair loss, starting right at the three month mark. Every time I washed or brushed my hair, I would end up with handfuls of it... I'm now about 4 1/2 months out, and it seems to have be slowing down. I've been taking Biotin since a couple of months before surgery. I also started using a thickening treatment that Pantene makes (part of their age defy line). I don't know if it really does anything, but I started using it daily about four weeks ago, and just in the last two weeks have really noticed that the Hair loss seems to be slowing. It may be a coincidence, but I'm still planning on buying another bottle of it when the first one runs out! If you're four months out already, and haven't noticed any hair loss, you may be one of the lucky ones who doesn't experience it. My mother had gastric bypass five years ago, and never had any hair loss!
brendaliz_r 29 Posted September 17, 2014 I have fine hair and before surgery I had it long, I decided to cut it by my shoulders before the sleeve because I just knew I was going to loose hair and I was right. My sleeve was on July 31 and I'm losing hair. I take my Vitamins daily, I assure to consume first the Protein (now that I'm eating I can't eat all the food so I just eat the Protein first) I try to take Biotin 5k - 10k daily, I use coconut oil to massage my scalp before washing my hair, also I don't wash my hair often because when is wet is too fragile. I read that rosemary oil is good to prevent Hair loss so I'm trying it soon. Also I'm going to cut it again to make it look with more volume. Let's hope this is temporary. JamieLogical 8,713 Posted September 17, 2014 Honestly, there is little you can do to prevent the Hair loss once it has started, because your hair loss NOW is a result of your lack of Protein three months ago. Anything you do now might help you grow NEW hair, but it won't save your old hair.
Bufflehead 6,358 Posted September 17, 2014 What causes Hair loss is controversial. Lack of Protein is *not* the generally accepted explanation in the medical community. Most people say telogen effluvium. I can tell you I hit a minimum of 75 grams of protein every single day starting the day after surgery and I still lost most of my hair. Oh and Biotin didn't help a bit either, just like my doctor told me it wouldn't!
MindyLynn5 21 Posted September 18, 2014 is Biotin a pill (vitamin) or a Shampoo you put in your hair?
#9grammy 274 Posted September 18, 2014 Biotin is a soft gel pill, can be found at Walmart in with the Vitamins.< /p>
mi75 1,235 Posted September 22, 2014 i take Biotin, zinc AND i use Nioxin shampoo/conditioner. i do it all. but, at 13 wks out i am noticing that my hair is getting a little lifeless and i THINK i am starting the loss stage. i plan to cut it. like Pixie short. just cut it off. and i'm done. i want to look SMOKIN hot and i'm only 35 lbs from goal at this point, so i'm ok with just cutting it off. viktoryalynne 28 Posted September 23, 2014 I was told plus read on support site that you need to start intake of Protein three before surgery. I started my Protein intake in May. I use hair, Skin & Nails by Sundown Naturals. It was recommended by others in my support group. I am familiar with the product. I used it in the past for healthier nails. It works. My nails are extremely strong and long artificial. My hair has always been thick but it is thicker and health looking. I started the product in May. I was suppose to have my sleeve done end of August and it was canceled. Scheduled for September but on hold because of psychiatric. He just releases approval today. Now I figure I'm looking at first of October. But I still take my pills every day for loss of hair issue.

Forsythia 882 Posted September 24, 2014 (edited) I have not really lost any hair other than my normal daily amount. I have fine curly hair. I do get it highlighted, but no longer relax it. I have not taken anything special to prevent loss. While I generally get 80 grams of Protein a day, there are days where that doesn't always happen. I think a lot of Hair loss has to do with your personal genetics and luck along with how anesthesia effects you. Edited to add my surgery was on 5/5/14.
