Just filled to 8.5 cc, still waiting to feel adequate restriction?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I just had a fill to 8.5 cc. Although I do feel some limitation I can still gulp down liquids orrery easily ( I only do this to test the tightness and not regularly). Also, I have a port that shifted it took 3 attempts from 2 docs to get in to do the fill. I'm worried that I will have to have a port revision soon I'd they can't get in next time. Anyone else have this issue T 8.5cc? Are my expectations too high for limitation on eating? Thanks for the help.

I've always been able to drink/gulp Water and I'm in the green zone. There really aren't any foods I can't eat if I follow the lapband eating rules. Dense Protein and vegetables can be a chore to consume but I still manage with only an occasional slime or stuck episode.

It took me 3 fills and 4 months to feel enough restriction/satiety to be able to go hours without hunger. It took 6 fills total to find the green zone.

I asked my doc once about the gulping liquids thingy and she said that has nothing to do with the band.. Liquids should go right down. You may have your expectation set kinda high. Are you losing? Are you getting satisfied soon enough?

Are you able to go 4 hours between meals? Remember, band won't affect head hunger.

Hi Dan,

My band has never prevented liquid of any form from going down unless of course it was right after eating which is just a no no anyway as far as band practice. One time I did it I actually spit it all back up. I was dumb and a rookie.

Sandy has asked some very good questions. Which answering will help you figure out where you're at. Remember it is not about band tightness but rather feeling satisfied for a long time on a smaller amount of food. You shouldn't be eating until Thanksgiving stuffed because at that point you've most likely over eaten.

Check out this great read on the band. It is very straight forward and I go back to it every now and again. it just in the simplest terms and it helped me when I was in your position. It basically cleared up all my misconceptions.

Everyone is going to be different as far as band adjustments. For fill it took me 5 fills in 5 months to find proper position for me. Since that time I have had two additional small fills as maintenance. My band is 11cc and I currently have 9.6 in it. I rarely eat between meals and I can go 4 to 5 hours without eating.

Here is my band stats

11cc Realize Band:
1st fill 5/29/12 5cc
2nd fill 6/12/12 1cc
3rd fill 7/02/12 1cc
4th fill 8/14/12 1cc
5th fill 9/4/12 1cc
6th fill 1/29/13 .5
7th fill 4/4/14 .1

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
