Protein amounts

Recommended Posts

I had my six month appointment at my surgeon's today. All my numbers were good, but the nurse practitioner asked me how much Protein I was getting. I told her that in the last month I've been getting between 80-90 most days, and she told me to back it down to around 60 because I wouldn't lose weight with that much Protein. Except that I have been losing weight. What are your thoughts on this ?

Well I'm a week from my surgery but my doctor has said we will need between 60-90 grams of Protein a day. So that's all I have for you.

The direction I received was to take 75-90 grams of Protein each day following surgery. When I had one of my early appointments with the nutritionist, she actually told me to increase my Protein intake because I was on the low end of that range and I should strive to be closer to the high side.

That sounds like an odd recommendation.

if I recall correctly, in my program, we were supposed to go for 45 the first week, 60 the following 5 weeks then 75 per day from then until eternity.

While I normally wouldn't recommend straying from what the professionals recommend, if you're having success with what you're doing now and there were no negative issues during your checkup, if it were me, I'd continue with what has been working.

I was told between 70-80 grams daily. Pre-op I am using that amount with three shakes daily and four oz. of Protein every evening.

I know I have a higher tequirement due to a higher weight. Maybe your NUT has lowered your goal due to your weight loss. This is just a guess.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
