Energy levels and pre-op liquid diet

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering if anyone else has had low energy levels while on the pre-op liquid diet? Luckily I don't have a manual labor job anymore since I have been struggling just to stay motivated. I know when you go from eating food for fuel to not eating anything solid, there is a change to be expected. But this drained feeling is getting way old.

What kind of pre op diet are you on? It's normal to feel tired and slow if you're on a low carb diet.

I was tired the first week. I've been walking 10000 steps and I usually do the first 5-6000 while at work. By the time I am finishing the 10000+ steps I am ready to crash. My preop diet was just for 2 weeks but I started 2 days early. Plus mine is 2 shakes and 4 oz lean meat plus 1 cup each of veggie and fruit - and only selection of 5 fruits and 5 vegetables. How long is your preop period?

Good luck to you all! I have faith that you can do this!! It's difficult for sure but in the end it's all worth it! Once my body got used to it, I have to tell you I hadn't felt so good in years and years!

Let us know how your all doing after surgery!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
