Time4ChangeNY 20 Posted September 16, 2014 I have type 2 diabetes and I have chosen gastric bypass because it is supposed to be the best WLS for greatly improving or even reversing type 2 diabetes. I would love to hear from post-op diabetics about their experiences with diabetes and gastric bypass surgery.
Peggy Jean 41 Posted September 16, 2014 When I came out of the hospital after gastric bypass, my Dr told me to stop all diabetes medicines. However, when I started soft foods, i noticed my glucose levels going back up, so I started back up on the basic diabetes medicine. IMy glucose now seldom goes over 120. I do believe as time goes by and I lose more weight that the diabetes will also go along the way of the extra fat. Good luck with your surgery!!!

Lissapmkn1 41 Posted September 17, 2014 Hi, I too, have Type II diabetes and I had RNY gastric bypass on June 30, 2014. I have stopped my metformin, and continue to check my levels. I haven't been over 90 since the surgery. Occasionally, I have gone a little low, but nothing bad. My A1C is now 4.8, down from 7.0. I have lost 72 lbs and so many of my issues are disappearing My cholesterol was 114! Lowest ever I think the surgery will help you more than you can even imagine. I had little if any pain after the surgery and didn't take pain meds when I was released from the hospital because I didn't need any. It has been the best decision I've ever made! I think so much of it has to do with how your surgeon approaches everything and my surgeon was meticulous and has everything mapped out and down to a science. Good luck to you Clarissa
