Question one week tomorrow!

Recommended Posts

My surgery was two weeks ago yesterday. I just toughed it out. I wasn't even allowed Protein shakes until one week out, so you are better off than I was if you are already on shakes. I just did yogurt and strained clear Soups (chicken noodle varieties mostly) for that first week. I found the sugar-free Jello and popsicles to be pretty useless, since they don't actually provide any calories.

Once I was allowed Protein Shakes and strained cream Soups, I was just doing two shakes and some Soup each day. I was technically supposed to be on that until this coming Thursday, but yesterday I tried a little cottage cheese and did okay with it, so I'm probably going to add that into the mix until Thursday when I'm allowed more pureed/soft foods.

i've been doing sugar-free pudding with Protein powder. yogurt makes me gag...trying some now and my stomach is gurgling like crazy. i will be one week out tomorrow and getting my staples out. i find that F/F creamed Soups are quite tasty and comforting and i have been using carnation no sugar added Protein shakes. they taste so much better than that clumpy Protein Powder crap i bought. i add 1 tbsp of instant Decaf coffed dissolved in hot Water to the shake to make it a cafe mocha flavor. no problem getting those down.

I'm not allowed pudding until Thursday, but I think I will definitely try that out. The cafe mocha sounds good too and I'm technically allowed decaf coffee now. I just haven't had any, because DECAF coffee always seemed to defeat the purpose of coffee for me. Maybe I'll grab some at the store tonight.

Should I worry about the fat content in cream Soups tho? That does sound good.

With as little as we are actually eating, I can't imagine it makes much difference at this point. ZOMG, you might break 300 calories for the DAY!

we were told to get 98% f/f cream Soups. they are not so bad. i just strained out the mushrooms for the cream of mushroom Soup. have not done the cream of chicken yet. i am only getting down 2 shakes a day and maybe half a pudding cup. i hated yogurt before and now i REALLY hate it. just tastes even worse.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
