I have a date! Woohoo! September 29th!

Recommended Posts

I will be having my surgery on September 29th! I am so excited! Its been a long process to get the approval both from my insurance and from my boss for the time off, but I finally have both and will have surgery in less than 2 weeks!

I finally understand what all the excitement over getting a surgery date is about!

@KristenLee- Have you started your pre-op diet yet? I think I start on monday (possibly Sunday). I have to go to a 4-hour nutrition class next Wednesday and do pre-op testing and see the surgeon for my pre-op visit on the same day.

This is all getting real!

I only had to lose 10 pounds and NO 2 week pre-op diet! I am so grateful! I only have to do all liquids 2 days prior to sugery. I have done all necessary testing and I am ready to go! Just anxiously awaiting the 29th!!

That's great! I wasn't required to lose a certain amount before surgery. I just have to do a liquid diet one week before sugery and then a clear liquid diet 1 day before surgery.

surgery in less than 2 weeks!

@@Amyly2n

awwww bud :)

such great news to hear on a tuesday (or any other day ;) )

different emotions are common to experience til surgery (and after too) :)

excitement, nerves, concern, doubt, fear , anticipation - but hopefully mostly happiness

but at the end of the day you made the wise decision to have WLS :)

don't 2nd guess yourself now!!!

you are on the way to a healthier, happier, longer life :)

enjoy the ride :)

good luck :)

kathy

.

Yeah! I'm so glad to find more people having it the same day! Do you have to do a pre-op diet? It fascinates me to hear the the differences in the pre-op stuff.

Yes I'm 2 weeks of 3 shakes a day with sf Jello and sf Popsicles and occasional leafy greens. It's not fun and I'm not fun to be around right now :(

wow just think of what the reward will be at the end! It'll be so worth it. I thought I'd be 100% ready to start my shakes/full liquids when the time came but since I just got scheduled so close to having surgery I am not sure I am fully prepared. I have been replacing Breakfast with a shake for a while now so maybe it won't be so bad. I'm giving myself for it all to sink in and hopefully I'll be ready by Monday.

I know! I am excited! I started my liquid diet this morning! It's not been too bad so far. But, I started substituting breakfast with Protein shakes back in August so that I could get used to it and I have Soup for lunch often, so it hasn't been much of a change. Now when I have to do another shake at dinner time, that will probably be tough.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
