Tired of meal replacement shakes!

Recommended Posts

I have been drinking Meal Replacement shakes for almost a month now, and I am getting to the point where the thought of drinking another makes me nauseous. I am only 2 weeks post-op and know I need the Protein.....any suggestions>>

I totally understand! I've been struggling with the same thing. I started Protein shakes 6 weeks pre-op, and am now 2+ weeks post-op. I can only get through about half a shake before I have to throw it out, because it is no longer appealing. My doc put me on mushy foods this week, and I've been so thankful to be able to change it up a bit. I still try to drink a Protein Shake on my way to work in the morning. As my nutritionist said to me as I was getting sick of it pre-op, think of it as medicine. It is a necessary means to an end. I try not to taste it when I drink it.

Wow. I suggest varying things up a bit.

I've been drinking Protein shakes daily (sometimes twice a day) for well over a year now. Luckily, my premier Protein Shakes still taste great to me and I consider them a huge part of the success I've had thus far.

Hopefully you can find some that you like and don't have to consider them the enemy as I think this is going to be a long journey without them.

Try mixing shake flavors (I mix caramel pretzel with chocolate) or adding a banana and/or a very small dollop of Peanut Butter. It makes a huge difference in the flavor!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
