I am a 56 year old grandma raising two grandchildren. I am employed full time as a parts manager in a automobile dealership.

I am very excited about moving forward now that I have my band. I have already lost 26 pounds...YEAH. I feel great, and already have more energy and don't require as much sleep.< /p>

Thanks for the kind words of support. I want to tell you I was very impressed with the care and the staff at Hurley. I am not from Flint so it is not our normal hospital, but I have been bragging them up to everyone. You have nothing to be nervous about on the 31st. Good look, hope to hear how you are doing. Can you tell me how to get my ticker tape going?????

Hello again, for your ticker just go to www.tickerfactory.com and follow the directions, it's very easy. You'll also find more info here:

http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=16218

I live near A2 and work at UM so Hurley is not at all my local hospital, either. I haven't honestly heard much wonderful about the hospital stay itself. But I have heard great things about the surgeons.

I have my pre-admission testing on Wednesday the 10th but I haven't gotten my info packet yet, so I can't order my diet... :(

I'm just a little nervous I'll be cutting it close to my surgery date.

How did you feel with the staples? Have any problems at all?

The staples were really not a problem, a little tender, and bending is tough. They didn't hurt at all coming out! The 24hr stay really is nice, they make sure you are comfortable and medicated for any pain, and to prevent nausea.

Hello dweck and welcome! I can't find any threads specifically about Dr. Ren, but if you click on the Search link on the tool bar near the top of the page, then type in Ren and click the radio button (the circle) next to Show Posts, you'll find a few about her. You also might want to go to www.obesityhelp.com and search for her, they have a lot of info about surgeons there.

Hi Mamajeanne - I just joined this website and noticed you had Dr. Farhad. I am scheduled for lap band surgery in April with Dr. Farhad and wondered what you thought of him? I have not met him yet - in fact, I will be meeting him for the first time the day of my surgery! Does he take time to answer your questions or does he seem to be in a hurry all the time? Was your follow-up with Dr. Farhad directly or with other staff members? Any information you can offer would really be appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
