Any other bakers out there? Have any healthy recipes to share? Have any tips or tricks to turn your favorite recipes into healthier, bariatric-friendly goodness? I went Apple picking yesterday and made a big batch of Apple cinnamon bread and banana bread yesterday. Looking for more recipes. Dinners too! We only eat chicken, tuna or turkey, and get bored of the same recipes.

This one I have yet to figure out how to make it healthier, other than switching to white whole wheat flour. I'll gladly take suggestions.

Apple Cinnamon bread

1/3 cup brown sugar (not packed)

1 tsp ground cinnamon

2/3 cup raw cane sugar

½ cup butter or other spread, softened

2 eggs

1 ½ tsp vanilla extract

1 ½ cups white whole wheat flour

2 tsp baking powder

½ cup milk

1 apple, peeled and chopped

1. Preheat oven to 350. Grease and flour a 9x5 loaf pan.

2. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon together in a bowl and set aside. Beat white sugar and butter together in a bowl using an electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until incorporated; add vanilla extract.

3. Combine flour and baking powder together in another bowl; stir into creamed butter mixture. Mix milk into batter until smooth. Pour half the batter into the prepared loaf pan.

4. Add half the apples and half the brown sugar cinnamon mixture. Lightly pat apple mixture into batter.

5. Pour the remaining batter over apple layer; top with remaining apples and add more brown sugar/cinnamon mixture. Lightly pat apples into batter; swirl brown sugar mixture through apples using a finger or spoon.

6. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean; 30-40 minutes.

I love to bake! I've been experimenting a little with Splenda in place of sugar and it seems to work pretty well.

It's funny I was just talking to a girlfriend of mine about baking this afternoon. I love to bake. My problem is if I bake then I'm going to want to taste. I'll wait until I'm a little further out to jump back on the bug.

Thank you for the recipes. I'll have to try them in the future.

I always use applesauce instead of oil as well and I use raw cane sugar or honey in place of refined sugar. Still a lot of sugar, but I prefer the more natural stuff :)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
