Need a little post surgery support....

Recommended Posts

Good Afternoon.

After having my surgery on 9/11, this is the first day (day 4) that I have felt like getting online. The major complaint (?) that I have is when I am getting my liquids in (64 oz/day, which is difficult), after taking one drink and swallowing, I hear/feel this gurgle like liquid going down a funnel. It sometimes burns and feels like pressure. I thought when doing my pre-surgery diet, this was going to be so easy to get the liquids/protein in. NOT. Takes me approximately 2 hours or more to get 16 oz down. Does this get better?

On the bright side, at least I pooped today!!!! Moving is slow, but getting easier everyday. Would love to hear from any of my friends out there who have dealt with these problems as well.

Each day will get a little better! My first two weeks consisted of walking and sipping around the clock. The only fluids I liked where Vitamin Water with a little sugar free lemonade to give it a better taste. And premiere shakes It took about 4 weeks before the sharp stomach pain left. I used gas x Strips and a heat pad on my back . Had pillows tucked everywhere in recliner to sleep. But each day was a better then the previous day so hang in there

The post above is absolutely correct. It will get better. You must stay with it. Keep drinking - so very important. Get your Protein in. Walk as much as you can. This is your full time job right now. One small sip of Water (1/2 a medicine cup) every 15 minutes is what I did. Soon you will be drinking full glasses again, but you need to heal.

Congratulations on making the decision to have surgery! Your new life is just beginning and you have many better days ahead because of it!

Carol

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
