mochax 50 Posted September 15, 2014 I'm getting sleeved 9/30 hoping to feel more comfortable with my sleeve by thanksgiving. I know everyone is different but would love to know how many weeks it took you to feel some sense of normalcy at food base functions. Im told I'd be the only one feeling a bit awkward but others won't notice how little I'm eating or not eating. Any thoughts or helpful information getting thru the holiday season would be great. ProudGrammy 8,322 Posted September 15, 2014 (edited) some sense of normalcy at food base functions. @@mochax my sleeve was12/15/11 - so my first holiday, christmas didn't effect me much cuz i was in no mood to eat many times people are more self-conscious about themselves, thinking everyone is watching what you eat family/friends already told you that shouldn't/wouldn't be the case in your situation sounds like you have some good supporters/family/friends that care/love you - that is always very helpful don't know where you will be with food come thanksgiving?? you "probably" will be on solids be careful what you eat, portions Protein - turkey is good don't drink while you are eating and when you are done eating don't drink for close to an hour (you know the drill ) hoping you have a NUT that will give you more good guidelines always listen to her first (before us on the board) remember/think about how much you used to eat on thanksgiving, all the sweet potatoes, stuffing etc and do the exact opposite this holiday and other functions you might not be able to eat too much at your early stage at some point soon, you will be able to eat anything - a bite or two maybe now even 1 teeeny bite of pumpkin pie to give you some satisfaction (FYI in my case i prefer not to take those "bites" sometimes - its kindof like "torture" for me i'd rather not have sweets etc than be "teased" with a bite or two of a goodie and not be allowed any more enjoy yourself at thanksgiving - even though you can't eat much - you are celebrating how thankful you are to be alive, the good things you have in life/family/friends and the new gift of WLS that will improve your life - be thankful for that!!! good luck with surgery speedy recovery kathy Edited September 15, 2014 by proudgrammy
MommyMeghan 92 Posted September 15, 2014 I'm almost 8 weeks out and I feel like I'm getting into a groove with my eating schedule. I just went to my first major function (a wedding) over the weekend and I was nervous. They had waiters passing stuff on trays for the cocktail hour and I was being offered food left and right. If it was something I could have, I had it but just a little. No one seemed to notice if I took anything or not. The dinner was a buffet and thank goodness they had all kinds of things that are allowed including salmon. Again, no one seemed to notice how little I took or if they did, they didn't say anything. This was a good prep for me getting ready for Holiday Gatherings. My suggestion would be don't stress about it now. See where you are when the time comes and don't be afraid to bring your own stuff with you. You always have the option to prepare something that's within your food allowances at that time. I'm sure most people won't even notice.
JCP 619 Posted September 16, 2014 I was sleeved 9/10 and asked my doctor's nurse about this. (She had a bypass 4 years ago.) She said at Thanksgiving I will be on normal food. She said she eats whatever she wants - some turkey and dressing with gravy in small portions, and later a few bites or a sliver of pie if she wants it. She said just keep the portions small, eat slowly, and no drinks with the meals. If your house is anything like mine, there will be food and football all weekend so just eat tiny meals and remember to get your Protein in. She made me feel much better about it. God bless!
