Ready for 1/2 of Me

Recommended Posts

I started my journey in Juarez, Mexico on 9/12/2014. I weighed in at 5'4.5", 247 lbs. I just returned home today greatfull to see my children and sleep in my bed. I was sleeved by a great team of docs lead by Dr. Jose Rodriquez Villarreal (Dr. Rod). My thanks to Dr. Rod, Dr. Calderon, Dr. Aramburo, Dr Solis, Dr. Castillo and Dr. Vizcama. As the child of two wonderful docs and the sister of one as well, I know good medical personel when I meet them. I am a difficult patient to please and I didn't have one complaint. My husband, who initially thought I was crazy to go to Mexico, was very impressed. I will admit that I did my research carefully before going and so did my family members.

Star Medica is small private hospital, staffed with really nice, caring professionals who seem to smile all of the time. All of my doctors spoke English, though much of the staff did not, which didn't seem to matter. They understood what I needed when I needed it which made things so much easier. I experienced pain because of the gas which was to be expected. Two days out and I feel almost completely normal. When I got home, I weighed in and was 238! I was really surprised. I didn't expect to see 9 lbs gone already. I feel as though I have a new opportunity to live again. I've been overweight for the last 8 years and its been a major roadblock to me living and enjoying life. I don't want to be afraid to run in to friends and have them say "She's so big now or Wow, she's gotten fat". I don't want to feel like I'll embarrass my kids or husband when I go out. I want to take family pictures. Not one of these excuses will hold me back any longer.

I'm so glad that I've started my journey and that Belite was an option for me.

ochiatl,

Glad you had a successful, uneventful surgery. I'm hoping your recovery is an easy one. After surgery, the most important thing is to sip, sip, sip Water. Your body has plenty of stored energy to run on. Rest when you need to and allow yourself to recover from the major surgery and be as active as you can comfortably be.

Welcome to the strange journey down the "losers" highway,

Blessings,

Kathleen

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
