Post op w/ band removal?

Recommended Posts

I'm having my 10cc lap band removed Oct 9 and then if everything goes as planned, 10 weeks later I'll have RNY. My surgeon told me that my band removal healing experience will be similar to my experience when I had the band placed six years ago. Any helpful post op tips? How long were you guys off work? I have scheduled one week off work and one week strictly working from home (which means a lap top in my lap and answer phone calls/ emails). My job is some desk work but mostly driving and making home visits to elderly clients' homes. Did anyone find the removal healing process easier than the insertion? Thanks :)

I was pretty sore when I had mine removed, I had it taken out on a Thursday and was grateful I had the weekend off but I was back to work Monday so it wasn't a big deal.

Good luck!!

I must have had an odd recovery....for me, it was a lot worse than having the band put in. I had a lot of pain. BUT...I do have to say, I had pain in my port area the whole time I had the band, which was 5 years. Like painful to even touch the area. So after I had it removed, my main pain was where the port was. I don't know what the deal was, but I STILL have pain where that darn port was! (I had It removed Dec. 2013)

I took a week off of work and ended needing another extra 5 days off.

I'm having gastric bypass on the 20th of October. I'm taking 2 full weeks off, and my boss knows I may need longer. A friend told me to take 4 weeks off....but I don't have that much vacation time, LOL. But I can be doing some work from home too, if need be.

I went back to work in 2 weeks after band placement. I had discomfort and some pain the first couple of days and after band removal I was sore the first couple of days and went back to work in one week. I also was doing desk work. It wasn't as bad as having the band placed on. I'm waiting to have RNY too but no known date yet. It's been 7 weeks now and I'm hoping to have surgery in the next 6 weeks

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
