Asked my Doc a question moments before surgery.....

Recommended Posts

So I am in my gown, IV in, ready to go into surgery. I am talking with the Doc and asked her if anyone has bailed out of the operation at this exact moment. I was actually surprised that she said yes. I was so excited for this operation I felt no nerves, just pure excitement. I can't believe that someone who has been through all the classes and worked so hard to get to this point would actually bail moments before surgery. did you bail, or know anyone who bailed?

@@Rovobay congrats on your surgery. I'm having surgery tomorrow. I'm very excited. A little nervous being that it's my first surgery and all..lol...how do you feel after surgery? Are you still in a lot of pain? How long were in the hospital? I hope you have a speedy recovery :)

I wasn't that close, but was in admitting and thought "I could bail right now and only be out $500" I was so scared, I think it was my "flight" instinct kicking in.

I had three months from my decision day to surgery day - I worked to hard during that time. I changed my diet, started exercising, practiced eating like a WLS patient, started incorporating shakes, etc. I was prepared as you could be when I walked into the hospital. I was just so scared sitting there in admitting and the more I thought of leaving the more scared I got.

I then glanced over at my husband and for some reason, I knew at that moment, this was the right thing for me to do. I CHOSE at that moment to go thru with it. That gave me power - the choice was mine to do it. It was weird.

That was 10 months ago...short of marrying my husband and having my son, this was absolutely the best decision.

I just found out that patients have to wait 1-2 years before surgery at the clinic I attend. I've been waiting 10 months now and have all my requirements done. I have no doubt in my mind that I'm ready and all the prep is almost to the point of overkill.

I think someone would be less anxious if they have had any other type of major surgery before. There are relaxation techniques that are quite useful during high anxiety moments, such as major surgery. I had a major surgery where there were numerous unexpected complications. I had brought my favorite painting and had it placed in view so that I could concentrate on it and drown out voices, sounds of surgical tools, and pain. I also thought about the young children at St. Jude that had to go through so much more than I was temporarily enduring.

Everyone is different, but I think a little mental preparation will keep you from backing out at the last moment. The newer requirements that make bariatric patients wait so long before surgery are put in place so that we are more than ready and less likely to fail.

I asked the same thing as I was in the holding area ....as a matter of fact my surgery was scheduled for 8am however due to someone making a mistake it wasn't until 1.... I thought that might be a sign to bail ... But I stayed ...24 days post up and happy I did it . Alyce

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
