It also helps you make the transition after surgery, preparing your body. I'm on mine right now. My surgery is the 18th. I'm having gastric bypass. My doc told me to drink as much Water as you can stand. Of course you have to get nutrients to. Two green smoothies a day. I use spinach, frozen blueberries, frozen banana, plain Greek yogurt, almond milk and Peanut Butter. Just search liquid diet items on google or smoothies on pinterest. liquid diet also helps shrink your liver which lays a top the stomach. When is your surgery?

The way my team explained it is that all the stages relate to texture. As you heal, you are able to tolerate rougher textures (so starting with Clear Liquids, then full liquids, then soft etc is related to the rate of healing).

They put you on liquids right after surgery and weeks after because you're stomachs very fragile and it needs time to heal. Especially after surgery your stomach is swollen from all the trauma it's been through so liquids are the only thing that will go down. Then toy can gradually move on to thicker textures.

Ok so once you know u can tolerate liquids then u can add full liquids and then once u tolerate that then soft etc?

You need to follow your surgeons instructions. I wouldn't advance a stage until my surgeon gives me the ok.

My surgeon told me that of the very few leaks he has had, all of them were within 1month post op from patients advancing food too quickly.

You have an entire suture line along the long side of the stomach. There is swelling and healing that you should be aware of. Solid foods are just too stressful for a recently operated organ.

I just wouldn't risk it. I was eating regular foods as tolerated as 5 weeks, so the progression wasn't so bad. I still test foods at 12 weeks so it's not like I'm eating regular meals but I'm enjoying small portions of all sorts of good foods!!

hi - the reason for the liquids is that so that NO particle of food gets stuck in the internal stitches. If it does, food can leak into your internals and it is life threatening. Also, your stomach can't weight bare heavy foods, another reason.

A nurse in my hospital told me that a lady had pizza a couple of days after she was discharged.

A piece of pineapple became lodged in her internal sutures (stitches) and she was rushed to emergency.

She then spent 79 days in hospital recovering... and the doctors struggled to keep up with the damage she had done to herself.

I know it's hard. I'm at the tail end of 'liquid only' and I've learned to be creative.

Craving real food but the words "LIFE THREATENING" keep me focused.

If think it's a psych thing, a habit - seek a counsellor help.

But for your life and that of your family, stick to liquids for 2 weeks post-op.

Good luck

C

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
