6 Month Post Surgery Question

Recommended Posts

So I have my 6 month visit with my doctor on Tuesday and I feel terrible I have only lost 60 lbs. The scale has not moved in the last month but back n forth between the same 1-2 lbs. It's very frustrating, some days I feel like I'm over eating and others I'm barely eating only to see if I can get this thing to move. It feels impossible how in a whole month, I'm still in the same place. I'm starting to feel like a failure and I swear I will start crying if he says something about my weight when I see him. I missed my period, I'm 14 days late but all tests come back negative. I went to the OBGYN and she said she doesn't think I'm pregnant but was going to take a blood test to check my hormones and also test for pregnancy. I'm hoping this is why I'm stuck because if not, I don't know what else to do. On top of all of this, I've been losing so much hair since July I feel like I'm going to a funeral every time I comb or wash my hair. I want to be happy losing weight and looking great but I can't even put my hair down anymore because I feel people can see through it. Just so sad :(

How much did you guys lose in 6 months?

I haven't had my surgery yet, but I think 60 pounds in 6 months is great. I would say - if you are losing a lot of hair, make sure you are getting enough Protein in. How much do you have a day??

I started at 237 and 6 months post-op I was down about 60 pounds as well. I got stuck quite a few times and I am now a year post-op and "only" down 92 pounds. You just have to keep sticking with it. Also, I lost a ton of hair too and it's only now begining to thicken up a little bit again. Hopefully I'm done mourning my hair everytime I take a shower or brush it, but it's nowhere near as long or as thick as it was before surgery. I don't feel like anyone else can tell though and I wouldn't trade my long, thick hair, when I was fat for my shorter, thinner hair now that I am a bit more thin-ish.

Good luck at your appointment!

I'm only 1 month post-op and have lost 42 lbs (counting pre-op), and from everything I've read, six months out is a big stall for most people. I'm ready for that and plan to go back to the liquid stage for a few days to (hopefully) break it.

I've lost no hair. Started using Wen Cleansing Cream (purchased from QVC), and I think that really helps. I highly recommend it.

You'll get past this!

I am a male - bald, so I can't help with the hair but I am approaching 6 months and my stall is beginning to start. I have lost a lot of weight though, 85 lbs but I have been at the same weight for two weeks now. I am beginning to eat a little more now too - 1200/1400 cal per day. I catalog everything I eat and I exercise walking/jogging/cycling, almost every day. I am sorry to hear about your frustration, but it will get better I'm sure. Think about where you were and where you're now able to go. Your health alone will be worth the effort. Keep your chin up - !! Good luck!

Im almost 6 months post op and feel the same way. Im down 58-60 depending on the day and been there for a few weeks. Im going back to basics, starting slimfast diet for a few days in hopes to restart things. I was losing hair bad too, i was taking Biotin but still losing, my surgeon told me to start vit b complex and its made a huge difference. Not losing anymore than normal hair.

I'm almost six months post op and about 65 lbs down and I couldn't be happier!!! I'm eating about 1000-1200 calories a day, 60-70 grams Protein and exercising (boot camp class and running) 3-5x/week. My Hair loss continues but is improving from when it started 2 months ago. If you're logging your food, are you making sure to get your protein in?

You are doing good. I am at 7 months and have "only" lost 46 lbs (yay!) I just came out of a 3 month stall. Talk about feeling like a failure. I tried everything to break that stall. My doctor said it was my bodies way of adjusting. Down 4 lbs in 2 weeks. It is hard but you can get through this.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
