Post-op discomfort stories needed

Recommended Posts

My surgery is Friday, September 26. I am really hoping to go back to work quickly. I do not do any heavy lifting so the doctor is leaving it up to my own comfort level. I have a pretty high pain tolerance and I know to move after this kind of surgery so I'm hoping I won't have bloating and gas issues. Anyone?

The only pains I had were gas pains then several weeks later, horrible pain dealing with Constipation. Several of us shared our experiences with that. Look at the topic "Laxatives".

After my last episode a couple of weeks ago, I have experienced sharp pains on my left side. Otherwise, I have been pain free since my post-op release from the hospital.

I had pain for 5 1/2 weeks, quite a lot of pain and I am no wimp. Not sure what happened with me but I am good now. Everyone is different but "most" people seem to feel well after a week or so. Best of luck to you.

I had pain for 4 weeks. I am on week 6 with just a little discomfort. I went back to work after 11 days (desk job). Everyone is different and usually I bounce back fast but that has not happen. I would do it again. I am happy to be sleeved. Good luck to you and take care of yourself.

I am no wimp either, went through a double mastectomy and a year of reconstructive surgery for implants. I literally thought this was going to be a walk in the park. Not so much the first week. I had two weeks off and went back to a desk job. I do have times of soreness now but I would not call it pain. If I sit too long at my desk I feel it. I did not have any gas pain at all. I have had no nausea or throwing up, I practiced hard before surgery and pushing my plate away when I was satisfied not full. I am on soft foods now and I am happy I am sleeved. However if you would have asked me 10 days post op I would have said don't do it. But it does get better! I was sleeved on August 25.

Everyone of us is different. I thought it was an easy path compared to my total knee replacement. I had surgery on Tuesday the tenth of Sept, 2013. Got out of the hospital Thursday and went back to my job as a construction manager Friday for 5 hours then full time on Monday. I didn't use pain meds,

I'm hoping the same as you, Luana! I'm only planning to take a week off work if I'm able to get the surgery this year. If it has to wait until next year, I'll take 2 weeks.

I work in retail but never lift anything over 5-10lbs and can sit when needed.

I'm 3 days out and I feel pretty normal. i have a high tolerance for pain as well. The day of and next day were really uncomfortable for me due to the gas. Gas-x didn't really work at all for me. I have an occasional spasm, but nothing that I can't handle though.

I had a good mentor. He was older than I and owns several auto dealerships. The day he checked out of the hospital one of them was being flooded by excess rain. He went right to work that afternoon and I never forgot it.

I really didn't have issues. I was in the hospital overnight, never took narcotics and was back to work the next week at my desk job.

It depends on possible complications as well... if they can do it laproscopically then you are in better shape.. which is why it's so important to stick to the liquid pre-op so they don't need to open you up.. I had a drain for 2 weeks so that delayed my ability to go back to work.. but other than that I had minimal pain once I got home, just had to adjust for sleeping upright for the first little while.. Good luck!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
