Amazed at some day one or two post op recovery stories

Recommended Posts

Yes, my gas pain is horrible and seems constant on post-op day 3. It rises through my chest and out my left shoulder. Every sip I take brings on a gas pain. I have only had a few waves of nausea. Yesterday I was only able to get 3 cups of Water & 1 Premier Protein drink down. I hope today will be better.

Good luck renewme! Lots of people had suggested walking walking walking. I did about 30-45 mins of walking each day. Let me just say, it helped so much. I'm post op day 7. I'm just now able to drink the recommended Fluid intake my dr wants me to be at. It took 7 days, but everyday gets better. The gas pain has been gone for 2 days now and it's so much easier. One thing I had to deal with yesterday was massive heartburn. I think it was because I had juiced a pineapple and some oranges. Too much acidic fruit in my system?! Other than that, I see the light at the end of the tunnel! Hang in there!

It's nice to read about similar issues that people are having. I am just two day post op and I am regretting this whole thing! I'm in so much pain! I just want to curl into a ball and sleep till the pain is gone. :( it's not really the incisions that are hurting me. It's the severe gas pain all over my back and shoulders. And also I feel like there is so much liquid stuck in my throat. I've only been able to keep down 2 medicine caps full of chicken broth and about 1/2 cup of ice chips, a couple sips of Water and now a couple sips of Gatorade and Decaf tea. That's it! I have meds for pain and nausea and have been taking them, but they just make me sick to my stomach and I dry heave. Anyone else like this on day 2?

I'm not sleeved yet but I did get banded 8 years ago. To me it sounds like you have swelling re: not swallowing too good) which will slowly go down. Of course you should check with your doctor. Hope by now you're feeling better.

I do understand exercising as in walking right away but I can't think of any rational reasoning why any doctor would encourage someone to weight train right out of surgery. There is healing taking place and weight training can damage us since we are not in any way healed. My doctor said 6 weeks before any heavy exercising.

Oh sweetie, I was sooooooo sick day 2 into day 3 and totally nauseous from the anesthesia! I was MISERABLE and thinking "Why did I do this"? Could barely keep Water down. Honest to God it got waaayyyyy better once the sickness passed and I quit throwing up...I was afraid I was going to literally bust my stitches. I had gall bladder out at the same time and never had general anesthesia and was NOT prepared. Was in hospital 5 days so they could keep me on fluids as I could not keep anything down. It gets better....Promise.

Kelly Green! Thank you so much for sharing your story. I am post op day 9 and feeling pretty good. I still have my downs to all this though. I'm still working my way up to holding in so much liquids and reaching my Protein goal. I do have to say, I've come a long way from day two and day three full of regret. I'm not really regretting it so much anymore. How are you doing?

I've seen a few people saying how they've walked a mile or did cardio, lifted light weights, drank 90 oz of Protein etc... On like day one or two at home. Am I just a wimp? I couldn't see how this is even possible with my one exit incision pain alone. I've walked lightly for ten mins at a time at most.

How can some of you do this? It's crazy. Also didn't they have really detailed discharge info like absolutely no working out for two weeks minimum and liquids only for a week or so? I read a guy that had puréed chicken on day two with bad diarrhea.....well.....yeahhhhh. Stomach isn't even close to healing. SMH at some. I know we all deal with pain, but I dunno, I must be a wimp. HA!

Don't feel bad or like a wimp on my first two days home well today is my second day, I barely walked like 10 minutes tops. Day 2 was a lot easier tho and I am taking my pain meds. I guess everyone body's different! I'm hoping by my 1 week post op I can do much better and be more active

I had an easy recovery. But I napped more those first two weeks than I have ever napped in my whole life. Really loved those naps.

So delicious.

My doctor gave me strict instructions not to lift anything over 15 pounds for quite some time. I was on Clear Liquids monday and Tuesday and now for 1 week, I'm on Protein shakes and Jello, broth, pudding, after that I will spend a few weeks on puréed food, then go to mushy foods, then go to regular foods

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
