I had my surgery Monday, January 11th and so far I feel pretty good. A little gasey, but I have no appetite at all, I'm drinking Water good, and I'm able to eat a little Jello, but I can't get much broth down. I'm not in any pain which is good.

Everything went fine. They found a hiatal hernia so that made it take longer. Already up and walking hoping to go home tomorrow at noon

Hi everyone, I tried to search for threads that discuss helpful things to bring to the hospital. Does anyone have a list of things that made your stay more comfortable. I know I have to stay an extra day due to traveling. My doctor don't want me to go home right away.

hygiene products, loose pajama pants, slippers, under ware, socks, bra , (I brought a sports bra) extention cord so my cell phone charger could reach it, iPad , cell phone ,chapstick, bonnet or scarf, the hospital gave me gas strips and anything else I needed they treated me like royalty , I never had any gas due to me walking , walking and more walking the hospital hallways, congratulations on your upcoming surgery and many blessings to you, it like a roller-coaster, lots of fears, and stalls and different emotion, my only regret is not getting this sooner

Arenea, also don't forget to take a small pillow for your stomach for the ride in the car, I heard you need to have something to place against your tummy for a while. Also you may want to take something to read while you are in the hospital

They really supply everything. I wore the same clothes home I wore to the hospital with the exception changing my panties. I was only in the clothes about 1.5 hours before surgery. Take as little as possible. The only thing I used that I brought along with me, was my phone and lip balm. They provided everything else for me. I didn't even need lip balm really. When I woke up my lips were dry and the recovery nurse put vaseline on them for me.

I was only in the hospital about 26 hours.

Did anyone have sleep apnea before their surgery? I went back to my pulmonary Doctor today and I have to have a cpap, totally bummed.

I have sleep apnea and have had a CPap machine for about 2 years. I cannot wait to get rid of that machine!

that's exactly why I got my hair braided before surgery. One less thing to worry about. Plus I'm natural and I didn't want to be struggling trying to comb it with my incisions still sore.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
