BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted March 11, 2015 (edited) Hello AA Sleevers! I am new to this group. I am having surgery on March 25th. I have a question for you guys. Is it true that AAs lose weight slower than other nationalities with regards to WLS? I've never heard such a thing or seen any studies to support that. From what I've seen on the forums here I don't think that's true at all. Hi AA Sleevers I'm glad I discovered this group, it's helping me out a lot. I am in the process of getting all my pre testing done, going to nutrition classes and meeting with surgeon. Waiting to get a date for my surgery, but I'm looking at the first week of May. I had to wait 3 month because of insurance. My goal is to lose 47 lbs before surgery, so I would only have a 100 lbs to lose. Any advice you can offer, would be greatly appreciated. Follow your doctor and nutritionist advice as close as possible. Remember the basic rules: Protein first, then veg and drink your Water. Exercise as soon as possible even if it's just walking for 30 mins a day. Edited March 24, 2015 by BLERDgirl
motherof5 364 Posted March 14, 2015 If you looking to lose pre op, I would say to cut back on your carbs,do Proteins and veggies and exercise.Ween yourself off of caloric drinks and junk foods. You will notice a difference. As far as post op,it is basically the same down the road. Like one mentioned before, eat your proteins first, sip lots of Water, eat your veggies if you ccan and walk as soon as you are cleared to. Do not drink 30-45 minutes after you eat. I personally wait until 1 hour because I am usually still full. Make sure to sip sip sip to hopefully prevent dehydration.I come to realize that this sleeve is a tool,a jumpstart to a new beginning. Ypur journey is your own and it will not be the same as others.Do not let that deter you and don't don't be a slave to the scale. IT WILL KILL YOU! The non scale victories are awesome and you will see inches lost before you will see that scale move sometimes.
gresau1 10 Posted March 24, 2015 There are not a lot of AA women on the forum, but I have never seen any AA men. I am beginning to feel like I am the only AA man who has had sleeve surgery. I was sleeved on March 17, 2015. So, am one week post op. My surgery was a revision from the lap band. I would love to know about success stories from other AA men. BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted March 25, 2015 @@Peekboo No at all. I think the Protein powder combined with all the Water I drink fills me up. The most I've eaten post op is 950 calories
Peekboo 472 Posted March 25, 2015 Bledgirl, that is awesome. Is the Protein Powder and the yogurt mixed in the coffee? Is it hot? I find since its been so cold, I'm drinking too many milky coffee and tea drinks. I need optios for Hot Drinks. I find im also super cold after cold drinks, lol. BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted March 25, 2015 Today it was cold. I make a cup of coffee, put half in the fridge and half in ice cube trays. I toss the whole thing in the nutra bullet and blend with a little bit of Water. The Isopure unflavored can be mixed hot or cold so sometimes I will add it to a hot coffee or tea. Peekboo 472 Posted March 25, 2015 Isopure unflavored is your go to Protein power? I will try it. Thank you.
BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted March 25, 2015 I find it work best if you dissolve it in a small amount of Water before adding to any beverage whether hot or cold. I find it blends in more smoothly that way.
Peekboo 472 Posted March 25, 2015 Do you only use the unflavored? Does it clump in coffee? Hot coffee, that is.
Peekboo 472 Posted March 25, 2015 One more question Blerdgirl, :-) Do you eat the Quest bars?
BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted March 25, 2015 It doesn't clump in coffee or when I add it to Soup. I mix it separately then slowly add it in so it doesn't clump. I don't eat Quest bars. They have too many ingredients like artificial colorings/food dyes, artificial flavorings and sugars for me. I am allergic to those things. I am also allergic to stevia. There are some all natural Protein Bars out there, but that taste so cookie like that I would be tempted to over eat them. I rarely buy them as a rule. I do keep one or 2 in the glove compartment for emergencies but I tend to go for Larabars, or Lenny & Larry bars. They also have a lot of carbs. Since I eat a lot of Beans and green veg, my carbs can be high at times as it is. For me Protein bars are rarely more than an occasional treat.
