Lap band miseries all over again with Sleeve

Recommended Posts

I feel like the nightmares I faced with LapBand are all over again this time with the gastric sleeve. The only difference

is this is not reverseable. The vomitting and nausea all over again with just a few bites and i am sick. Well, I am only a month out not sure if this will get better with time? I guess time will speak for it self..!?!

Anyone else having problem with the sleeve?

None at all here.

You said you had same with lap band how long before it resolved? Maybe you have a sensitive tummy if it happened both times

I'm a year out and I still have that problem occassionally. The first few months anytime I had more than a few bites I was puking...now it seems mostly limited to anytime I eat something that the sleeve decides not to like, then the barfing begins. The trick is to eat really slowly because first, you will recognize faster when you are getting sick and you will not have already eaten that much and second, my nausea tends to subside if I just stop eating for awhile and then try again.

It was far worse the first few months than the entire rest of the time...at least for me.

I do not have any problems with my sleeve either but I was a virgin sleeve. Maybe the revisions are just a bit harder to recover form . Call your doctor's office is it what you are eating or how you are eating? Maybe it is too soon for certain foods.

My first month was fairly miserable with nausea and vomiting. I had a lap band for seven years and had it removed this April. My doctor required a wait between band removal and sleeve, so my sleeve surgery was August 4th. I had lots of nausea and some vomiting immediately after surgery and for the first month. I found, however, that Constipation contributed to my nausea and once I got things "moving" better, I improved a great deal. I am at about six weeks out now and feel much, much better. So I guess my advice would be to stick with your plan, make sure you don't let yourself get constipated and be sure to share with your doctor what you are going through. There are things they can give you to help. Hang in there, it can get better.

It does get better! Hang in there! My first month was brutal as far as not being able to eat like I used to! The mind wanted more comfort foods! Had to keep turning them thoughts off. I had no vomiting an nauseous but I also had good tummy meds I took..pre an post. .script pepcid, nexium, zofran. ..started me right in preop an continues...the other reason I said it was brutal I had esophagus spasms for 2 wks. .so I stayed an babyed my tummy with Protein Shakes, an other items that were really soft. I still would rather do Protein Shake for Breakfast an I carry Protein Bars when I'm on the go. Especially if it's just me. I'm 9 wks out an doing good. It only takes me about 5 or 6 baby bites an I'm done..I don't center my life around social lunches or dinners much..like I did before. But we do a few times a wk..my first wk I thought I was going to die an kept thinking wat the h*** have I done!? My first weigh in an on my 7th day it turned around for me. Started feeling different mentally physically emotionally especially when I seen wat I lost! But I was up an down with all the above for about 6 7 wks..I just stick to my protocol an trust it wrks an it is! You'll see! I have added a tiny dessert treat at night an it helps with not feeling deprived. You'll get the hang of wat will wrk for you..you can do this!! :)

Thank you all for your wonderful support. I had been feeling so down, depressed and discouraged lately.

It is still hard to wrap my head around the fact that this is not a reversable surgery. No matter what happens nothing can bring back my stomach as it was before.

This has been a complete mental trip for me. I try very hard to not focus on the current situation and want my day to day life to get back to the normal, usual routine.

At times I feel like rewinding the clock and going back in time...I wish just for a moment to go back to the old, happy, chubby girl living a simple, normal life.

I get exactly how you feel !!! I am 8 weeks post-op and just want to eat and enjoy. I thought at this stage I would be eating healthy foods and small portions but I didn't realize how little I would eat or how certain foods would affect me. I can barely get down an egg and reaching the goal of 60 g of Protein daily has become my full time job!! It seems like it gets better and 6 months seems to be the time this turns around. My husband reminds me often that I can not go back so there is no point in regretting. His reminder helps me focus on my daily goals, my continuing weight loss and to move forward....... some days are harder than others but I find on the days that I reach my Protein & Water goals I feel better and even more so the following day, I just have to keep the momentum up.........Keep eating, slower than you could possibly imagine, keep sipping & keep smiling, things will get better.

Baby_angel and Sherripark I want to let you know that it does get better as time goes on. I was sleeved on 4/8/14. In the beginning I had nausea, vomiting and could barely eat much of anything. I had difficulty getting in my required Water and Protein amounts until I was about 3 month out. I am 5 months out now and can eat a whole lot more than I could in the beginning which is freaking me out. Just yesterday I wished that I could go back to eating less food because I am afraid that I am eating way too much now. Just try to hang in there and you will soon come to love your sleeve.

I wish the both of you all the best on your journey

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
