Hey all, I was sleeved on 9/4/14 with Dr. Dirk Rodriguez performing the surgery. My weight at the time of my surgery was 399 lbs and in the week that followed I lost 14 lbs. My journey to word my present situation began back in 2002 when I tore my acl. I had surgery to repair it and soon after I began gaining weight. I've tried diets and exercise but I couldn't keep the weight off. I heard about the sleeve from a co-worker and began looking into it. I then decided it was what I needed to help me change my life. The first week started out a little rough, but I kept working through it and it has gotten easier. The only thing I'm waiting on now is being able to take a normal drink instead of constant sipping. Lol.

Congrats on your recent surgery! I was sleeved 8/22 and am also in Texas (I noticed your name?). I'm down 18 lbs, but have hit this dreaded 3 week plateau. Actually mine occurred around week 2. Just trying to get my Protein, liquids and work outs in...and keep going on this journey! I'm sure you'll be able to get away from the small sips soon, I'm able to tolerate much more liquid than before. Good luck.

Another Texan here. Mine was 9/10. Still some pain. Sick of sipping! :)

I'm also a Texan, but was sleeved 12/31. I've lost 76% of my excess weight so far. Hang in there everyone - life is great after the first few weeks!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
