SEPTEMBER 2014 POST-OP SLEEVERS CHECKING IN!

Recommended Posts

Congrats everyone! We are doing great! I'm about 1.5 weeks away from 6 months post op and down 75lbs. Pants are falling off, shoes are too big and I found dimples on my face I haven't seen since I was a kid. Things are going well but slowing down a bit, but it's to be expected as I am less than 30 from my goal weight. Thankfully the Hair loss is starting to slow down. Apparently, I'm the only that can really notice as I was blessed with LOTS of hair, but the clumps that came out where scary.

Congrats to all of us :-)

I finally did my tickers. I am so proud of myself for where I am at today. I woke up this morning and weighed in at 246.5 lbs. My surgery was 9/29/14, and I am well on my way to Onederland. I am putting 199lbs as my goal by July 4th (very ambitious, know) because that is when my dad is coming up to visit, and he hasn't seen me since Thanksgiving last year. I was only down about 20-30 lbs then. In July, he will see me totally different. He has seen my pictures, but that's not the same as in person. I cannot wait. My clothes too are falling off. I started at 26/28 sized clothing and now I can do 16-18 sizes. I can almost share clothes with my sister, that hasn't happened since I was in junior high. LOL. Who would have ever thought? Why did I wait so long? But, better late than never. I just want to also say, how inspired I get with everyone posting their success. I am proud of all of y'all. Keep up the good work!!!

Surgery date was September 26, 2014! I made 6 months post op on 3/26/15 that same day I had a PCP doc visit...... I am now 177lbs from my highest weight of 228 the day of 10 day pre op weight the day of surgery I weighed 217! I'm officially off blood pressure meds, first time in 13 years! I feel great, look great, I exercise with a personal trainer 3 days a week, but my PCP said that I should work out at least 5! Hopefully, I'll find that kind of strength! It's still hard to get in 90grams of Protein AND 64 oz of Water but I'm trying????

As of yesterday I have lost 85% of fat and only 15% muscle. I have 33 pds to go. So I'm kicking up my walking and going to the gym. At the end of July going to the Gilroy garlic festival and staying in Santa Cruz for a couple of days. I'll be hitting the beach and board walk. Yeah haven't been there in a long time.

I have a question. I was sleeved in September. Has anyone else had trouble with Constipation? I have been taking 3 stool softners a day. I have a BM every 3 or so days. I always had a BM daily before surgery. Anyone else having trouble?

Thanks

Yes. Constipation is a problem for me. They told me to take Miralax, which works, but I like prunes better. I know prunes have a lot of sugar in them , but Miralax seems so artificial. Drink plenty of Water, too.

@@Pwfnp -Try getting some more natural Fiber in your diet. Prunes are a good choice, as it prune juice. Braggs Organic Apple cider vinegar is also helpful. Just a capful a day taken either as a shot or mixed in your Water. My diet is naturally high in fiber. Some green leafy veg like spinach may help. I regular as rain. I go at least once a day.

I started to take magnesium chelate, one a day, and it has helped. Plus I dropped to 1 Iron and 1 Calcium a day per my PCP

Yes!!! I take one cap full of miralax in my coffee and after a few day I'm back to normal. If I get too loose, I skip a day or back down to 1/2 a cap. Hope this helps. ????

About the BM thing - don't forget you are only eating a fraction of what you used to eat so I don't think it's unusual or even a problem if you're not pooping every day. I have been tempted to try laxatives too...and once I went a whole week without going...but I am afraid of becoming dependent on them.

That is true. ????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
