If it's sudden and new, I'd call you doctor. Could be scar tissue adhering to a rib or something. Better safe than sorry. Get it checked.

Agree it's worth getting checked out to be safe. However I have had deep 'stitch' pain for 6 weeks and only now is it settling down. I had it when standing or sitting upright, twisting to the side or bending - it felt as if something was 'caught up' deep inside on the lower left side. I was told at my check up that some people get this post-op and that in my case it was nothing to worry about.

Incidentally for all those disappointed by their weight loss...... even if you are only eating 600 cals a day, for women that's only approx 1400 less than you need each day for moderate activity so you are saving 9800 per week which equates to 2.8 lb (you need to burn 3500 cals to lose a lb of fat). So if you are losing more than 12lb a month you are doing very well. I had lost 22lb in 6 weeks and when I had my check up they were concerned that I might be starving myself to have lost so much! It's different for men - you have a faster metabolism and you need 2500 + cals a day anyway so the 'shortfall' is greater for you and you can expect to lose more.

Some people are posting amazingly high weight losses on here per week/month and that's great for them, but I don't think it can be taken as the norm, so don't get disheartened.

I think some of that sharp pain near incision areas can be adhesions or scar tissue. I was told I apparently tore them all free (sharp awful pain) but suddenly they were gone.

Is it just me, or are higher carb foods easier to tolerate? I feel horrible about this because I know it's always "protein first" but I will throw up quicker on chicken or turkey then I will the crusty edges of the bread or a small hard pretzel. Why is crispy better? (Surgery date 9-16)

I agree about the carbs going down easier. I had 1/4 of a biscuit and an egg and the biscuit went down a lot easier than the egg. Just lets me know I'll have to work hard to keep the carbs under control.

I'm hoping that when I completely heal it will get better and I can lay off of the crusty bread/pretzels/crackers. I'm a veteran Atkins dieter and I love eating that way. It just that the queasy feeling and throwing up my entire meal is really getting OLD and I feel betrayed that it's the chicken/eggs/cheese/protein that's doing it.

@@angel22_99 it should help if you make sure that you are having moisture with your meats -- gravy, marinara sauce, dipping sauce, salsa, whatever you like have something with every bite.

Also if you are not doing so already, make sure you're chewing each bite to mush and beyond.

Have you told your doc that you are throwing up so much?

Yes. He promised it will get better. He told me to not worry too much about eating as long as I am getting my liquids and Protein Shakes. The problem is that he should have removed a portion of my brain during surgery to eliminate my "hunger"---it's hard to describe the feeling, but it's a cross between wanting to eat because you see friends and family eat and feeling weak and crappy so you think eating something will make you feel better (it doesn't!). I really could get by with liquids and Protein shakes, I just have to get over my head hunger.

Also, my surgeon used a whip-stitch to close up my stomach along with the staples. He said that could give me less room then others usually have in my stomach at first, but those stitches would dissolve. So hopefully time will help.

Question for everyone... I was down with my nutritionist's instructions to avoid drinking with meals. Guess the idea is that if you fill up with liquids then you're not getting the nutrition. BUT... I swear to you... a little bit of liquid when I eat helps me cope with the general discomfort of eating. I'm talking a few sips here and there. Calms down the stomach entry point, I think. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I was told to take small sips to help mush the food up...

I try not to drink with meals, but it does help!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
