NotGoingThere 19 Posted September 11, 2014 I have been contemplating having bariatric surgery for years. I didn't like the sound of either the bypass or the band, and hated the idea of a 6 month supervised diet, but finally decided that it just had to be done or I would die fat and early, and leave my five year old without a mom. I asked my doctor for a referral, and was told that I needed to sign up for a seminar first. I went to the website of a surgical group my doc recommended, and was delighted to discover their post that BCBS had dropped the supervised diet requirement two days previously, and that I could do the seminar online. Since then, it seems like things have moved at lightning speed. After meeting with the surgeon, I opted for the gastric sleeve. (I still am not crazy about the bypass or band options, even though I know they have been very successful for others.) Got got all my testing done, and after a glitch or two due to transferring to a COBRA policy my insurance got approved. I found out today that I will have my pre-op appt and get my surgery date on Monday. Can't wait! Nurse said surgery may be by the end of September!
