Hi...

My name is Sherry and I live in western Virginia.

I'm so glad I found this board.

It's critical for my health that I have this surgery but our family has limited funds. For a number of reasons, travel overseas is not an option for me but I am free to go anywhere within the lower 48 to have the lap-band surgery done, if the price is right.

Here in Roanoke, they wanted to charge me $30K to $35K and I have no insurance. That strikes me as way overpriced.

I found a place in Detroit that charges $11,500 and so far that's the lowest domestic price I've seen. Can anyone recommend a good doctor and facility that might charge less?

I'd appreciate your help with this. All other diets and plans have failed me to this point and with more than 200 extra pounds to lose, it's just plain hard to get around.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

SB

Sherry,

Good luck on your journey.

I was one of the lucky ones with insurance. So I can only image your pain.

Please take into consideration more than price as you start your journey such as sollow up care that may or may not be included.

Good Luck to you,

Debby

Hi Sherry, welcome and I'm glad you found us.

You might want to try hanging out in the "Doctors and Hospitals" threads. I'm sure I remember reading about a surgeon in Colorado who has very reasonable prices.

Good luck.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
