Gastric Bypass or Sleeve? Why did you choose what you chose?

I had been planning to have the sleeve, but when I met with the surgeon this week, he recommended that I rethink my choice- I have an esophogeal anomaly that should be considered a contraindication to both the sleeve and lap band. I'm disappointed, but determined, just trying to wrap my head around the change in plans...

Thanks everyone! The surgeon ended up recommending the sleeve for me. He said I'm young, don't have too many other health issues and my weight is within range for a sleeve. I guess if it were higher and I had other health concerns he would have recommended the rny. I have been doing all my research on the gastric bypass and now I'm reading on the sleeve. Now I'm really torn! The sleeve seems like it has good results but I know the bypass has been done and researched and followed for more than the 5 years the sleeve has.

I had really wanted the sleeve, but my Ins. Would not pay for it, so I am getting the bypass and I am a little nervous. The Dr. told me that it has been around longer and it is the golden rule for all the other surgery. So I have come to terms with it and also research this a lot.
