Difficulty Identifying Final Goal Weight

Recommended Posts

So... With that said, I have chosen a goal weight that would put my BMI at 24.9. That's exactly one pound into the "normal" range.

This is precisely how I chose my goal weight. When I get there, I will just re-evaluate my goal based on my overall health, how I feel, and how I look (in that order). I suspect I will want to go about 10lbs lower, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

I am dealing with this issue with my wife and family. I am 9+ months out from surgery, lost 140 pounds and I currently weigh 220 lbs. My initial weight target was 230lbs. The surgeon did not set a goal for me.

My wife and family think I look "skinny". I think that is because I have been overweight for a decade and they are used to seeing me differently.

I am wondering where my weight loss will settle. I have a BMI of 27 but have not really paid much attention to that. The weight loss has begun to slow down, but I feel like I have more weight to lose. I feel good, I am more active, exercise regularly and look good in my clothes. I will stick with the tracking and monitoring, and plan on intensifying my exercise through the winter to loose some excess fat and strengthen.

I feel like I have accomplished a lot and if I loose another 10 pounds, great! But if I settle in here I will be ok with that as well.

lost 140 pounds - wife and family think I look "skinny"

@@macman

way to go with your amazing weight loss!!!!!

if you are looking and feeling good - wanting to lose those last 10 lbs, i say go for it!!!!

like i asked @@Andrew0929 are any of your other family members even a LITTLE overweight???

maybe they are feeling happy for you, but a little sad for themselves

they need to lose weight - and you showing your new "figure" might give them weird feelings :(

NOT jealous, maybe a little "envious"??? i think theres a difference

if doc is ok with you losing a little more, thats great

IMO always listen to you first and foremost

maybe/probably you are tired of being "called" overweight over the years\

now surprise, surprise - "they" think you are too thin

can't win for losing :(

good luck dude

keep up the good work

happy maintennace :)

kathy

congrats

I know the bmi charts are flawed but I think that it gives a rough guideline. For example I have never met a person who's bmi was between 25-30 who was too skinny.

It's a strange situation for many of us...my BMI is about 23; weighing 140 is very reasonable for. 5'5" tall woman but I have people who think i am too thin and have girlfriends way thinner (one is 117 at same height) but since people are used to it she is not too skinny.

The best exercise is the one you will do. The best goal weight, as long as it is somewhere in the healthy ballpark, is one you can maintain.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
