HI, I had surgery with Dr. Wilhelmy and am happy to share my experience. This is what I posted on another forum.

I am retired and live part of the year in Baja Mexico. I chose to have my surgery done at Almater Hospital with Dr. Wilhelmy and spend more for better care. I have been to clinics and smaller hospitals while here in Mexico and I did not want my surgery to take place in one of them. I wanted a proper hospital with all the credentials and specialist on site. I wanted to be in a safe place from the get go and recover there too. I did not want to recover at a hotel either. I was prepared to pay more because having worked 25 years in the medical field I know what can go wrong if you do not follow protocol. While it is true that certain things are done differently than in the US and I was prepared for that I can say that the care that I got from the staff at Almater hospital and all the doctors and staff at Mexicali Bariatric Center was one of the best in my life. The nurses and doctors are attentive and caring. I saw Dr. Wilhelmy daily and Dr. Beltran and Dr Campos visited me daily as well. Everything I had read about them was true! I am 62 years young and want to live much longer. Do not sell yourself short and go with the best! You deserve it!

Please share your experience, impressions, and progress. Thank you!

I too just posted this on another forum @ obesityhelp.com. I hope it helps...so far so good for us, and I would do it again!

My husband and I both were sleeved by Dr. Wilhelmy on September 1, 2014. We were so well taken care of by him and the entire Mexicali Bariatric team. Being able to stay in a clean hospital 3 nights was very important to us as we were recovering. All three doctors, Dr. Rodolfo Wilhelmy, Dr. David Beltran, and Dr. Edgar Campos checked on us at least twice daily. The nursing staff was very caring and helpful. Our experience was very comfortable and very safe. I look forward to reporting our successful results throughout the years.

Thank you for your reassuring responses and impressions. Everything I have read and heard about this group seems outstanding on every level, so I'm not surprised to hear your positive remarks. How are you doing on your weight loss, and overall condition since your surgeries?

Since surgery Sep. 1, I have lost 12 lbs and my husband has lost 19.5 lbs. Since pre op I have lost 35 and my husband has lost 31. We are both doing well but get tired out quickly. We will be returning to work on Monday. I've got to say I'm sick of the clear liquid phase 1 diet, but we will change to phase 2 on Friday so that will help. I hope this helps with your decision.

That is so incredible! You both must be so incredibly excited to be on your way! I am anticipating that the clear liquid diet phase will be a challenge, as well, and while better, the thick liquid stage won't be a picnic either! But it's all worth it.

I so appreciate hearing about your progress, and hope you will post from time to time as you go along this journey. I am scheduled for December. Thank you!

What can I say....

If anyone was like me, I did a ton of research on different procedures, clinics, doctors, etc. Dr. Wilhelmy was, just to put it bluntly, outstanding. I have never, in all my life, had the level of courtesy, understanding, care, commitment, listening skills, from any medical professional that I had ever been with prior to Dr. Wilhelmy and the staff at Almater Hospital. I would highly recommend this team to anyone seeking WLS or help with obesity.

The entire team was highly professional, involved, and willing to answer any and all questions to the best of their ability.

My surgery date was on Saturday 8/30/14; I went in the Friday before for tests. I was released Tuesday morning 9/2/14, after passing my final leak test.

It has been 17 days and 16 pounds so far.....and doing real good.

Ed,

Thank you for sharing your progress, as well as your impressions about this team. It is very affirming, as I too have done a laborious amount of due diligence.

Please keep us informed of your progress as you go along. I know they recommend 10 days of a clear liquid diet followed by 10 days of thick liquids before progressing to soft foods. How is all that coming for you, and what foods/shakes/supplements do you recommend?

I feel like a little kid with a million questions, but am so grateful for this information. Thanks again!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
