Hi pinkcare,

i'm having my op on Monday fingers crossed, i had to get rid of 5% of my weight in a year. not sure if you have done that bit yet, then did a 6 week course to change my eating habits, seen a dietian and a phycologist ( thats probably spelt wrong) head shrink to see if you can cope with having loads of loose wrinkley skin, then the guy who will knock you out and the surgeon and the pre op nurses to check your blood pressure and stats.

then you wait and wait for three months or more for the date and then there are more blood tests, you will think you are a pin cushion,BUT getting that date and doing the pre op diet all the hard work is suddenly worth all the hassle as the goal is in sight.

when you get your date or you need a buddy i'm always on the keyboard drop me a line, good luck

First of I'm very sorry Butterfly I haven't seeing your reply before. I hope the surgery went well and that you are losing safe and sound. :)

An update in my process Last Oct I had my mdt I was seeing by a nurse, a dietitian and the surgeon. They three agreed the best for me was surgery and bypass. Then later november I receive another two letter one for an appointment on the 9th Jan with the anaesthetist and one for a dietitian on the 27th Jan.

The anaesthetist gave me the good to go and told me I could call the secretary about a date so I called and she said it wouldn't be before May...Now I got very desappointed that it would still be that far...I can't believe it's going to take another 4 months. Then I breathe and accept...oh well at least I'm having the surgery I suppose. I'm trying to look at bright side. But to be honest the thing is that my life is kinda on hold waiting for the surgery and everyday I feel like I'm waiting to start my life whilist my life is passing...don't get me wrong I still work and go to college but it's just that it should be by March but now is May...but I can't really plan anything because it could also not be may...anyways...thinking positive... it will be May!! :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
