angierue 214 Posted September 17, 2014 My surgeon requires a 5-10% loss depending on your BMI. I was at the higher end so I'm currently trying to lose 38lbs before mid-October. It's been extremely tough because I had a big trip last weekend (3 day music festival) and then I'm going to Vegas for 3 days the end of the month. I think after Vegas, I'll put myself on a modified liquid plan (2 shakes, lean meat for dinner and green veggies and cucumbers for snacks).
MGR1852 292 Posted September 19, 2014 I didn't have a required amount to loose but I was required to be on a 6 month physician supervise diet to meet my insurance requirements. I knew the more I lost pre-op, that much less to lose post-op! I lost 43 pounds prior to surgery.
kellygreen 1 Posted September 19, 2014 My doctors office puts you on a 2 week Protein Shakes and full liquid diet only just to reduce liver. His nurse told me in that time people lose anywhere from 7 to 20 pounds... Never did they say you had to lose a specific amount prior to surgery date but did say if Liver was not reduced he may not do surgery.
CherokeeGirl 25 Posted September 19, 2014 The heavy you are for surgey the more there can be complications from what I understand....plus it shows dedication...we may be able to do it for a few weeks...but not long term...not most of us anyway or we wouldn't ne over weight
Andrew0929 1,101 Posted September 19, 2014 I was forced to do a 3-week pre-op diet due to gaining weight close to surgery date (food funerals). I lost 31 pounds in 3 weeks ...
Turk 8 Posted September 19, 2014 I had to lose 33 lbs before the surgery because I was 533 lbs the first time that I walked into the office about 8 weeks ago. The table that they use for the robotic surgery has a 500 lbs weight limit. I have since lost 52 lbs per my last weigh in and will probably be closer to 60 by surgery. I weigh a lot more than you do so it comes off faster. While it's good to start losing weight now it seems silly to ask so much of you.
InkLover 20 Posted September 19, 2014 I didn't have a requirement from my surgeon, however, I started this whole process at 363, I was 340 the day before surgery and today 3 days post op I am 331. I'm really looking forward to breaking that 300 barrier, I can't remember the last time I weighed less than 300 pounds.
