Contact your surgeon. He/she can address nausea. Either anti-nausea meds to get you through, or it could be acid (are you on a PPI?). But you really should call right away.

You need to be able to get your fluids in, or you'll become dehydrated.

Please let us know how you make out. Hope it's a simple fix!

@@lisalaufenberg for what it's worth, I struggled with nausea post-op. It was an acid issue, and my PPI was increased and it took care of the issue.

I'm alittle surprised you weren't put on a PPI immediately following surgery. Seems to be status quo from what I've read. But I know they all do things a little differently.

WIshng you a speedy resolution! good luck :)

My surgery day was the 3rd as well and I was actually in the hospital for 2 extra nights due to nausea. Part of the problem could be WHAT you are eating. You should be on FULL liquids until about your 14th day after surgery, nothing with chunks, it could be irritating your stomach, it's still healing in there so smooth liquid is going to go thru easy and pass right to the intestines. Other food that has to be broken down will have to sit in the stomach and gastric juices might be irritating it.

At the hospital they were giving me broth and popsicles, none of it was staying down, once they moved me to a thicker cream of chicken Soup and yogurt things stayed down....so right now, I am kinda living on cream of chicken soup...strained and yogurt without fruit.

My Dr. gave me a great book showing what you should be eating when, if you like I can scan it and send it to you.

Good Luck!

I'm 9 days post-op. I never had any nausea, but before I even went into the surgery room, they put this little patch at the top of my neck behind my year and they said it was to prevent nausea. It must have worked as I never experienced any nausea even in the slightest.

I wish I knew the name of what it was, but it stayed in place for about 3 days or so and then just fell off....never had to take a pill.

Yeah I had the scopolamine patch too. Anesthesia makes my extremely sick anyway. I threw up the first two after surgery even though they were giving me all they could. It is getting much better finally though :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
