Should I stop all vitamins 1 week before blood test's

Recommended Posts

My husband and I are due for our 12mth blood test next month. I'm wondering if we should stop our Vitamins for a week to give a true reading of where we are at. Has anyone tried this, or any opinion on why we should or should not do this

I have been told to do this, all my bloodwork was done during "normal" consumption. i did find out that certain numbers - like cholesterol, are not accurate if you drank coffee so I do all my blood work completely fasting (except water).

This spring I was having some health issues and did blood work when I WAS not fasting and when I was NOT taking Vitamins (weren't agreeing with my tummy). Interesting thing - very low blood sugar for not fasting (78) and my nutrient levels were very good even though i had been off my Vitamins for a couple of months. I try to eat healthy and I suspect your body stores most vitamins for awhile.

It was a clue though - I wasn't feeling well because I wasn't eating enough. Low blood sugar doesn't feel good. I wasn't eating enough because I didn't feel well. The "cure" was to find ways to force myself to eat. Now, I am back to trying to NOT overeat...haha.... normal!

So, my advice is to stay on your normal routine unless your doc tells you otherwise.

Thanks, I'm just worried if we take them up until the blood test then it's not a true assessment of our levels because of the supplements. At 12 months I really do want total accuracy because I don't want to be taking supplements if not required. I would much prefer to get the right balance from foods.

I'll give the Dr a call and see what he thinks. I'm glad your doing ok now

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
