I've been enjoying the heck out of popping pop corn at home. I've been using canola oil (I know, I know, oil, but at least it's been one of the healthier oils) to pop. But I but an electric air popper this past weekend. So, I can make it healthy. Looking forward to using it soon.

I was like you 2much fun, I love popcorn! I am 21 days since I had surgery!! I am just starting to eat OK! but I miss popcorn LOL I also really miss drinking with a straw, I used a straw for every drink, I feel like I am learning how to drink again out of a cup I feel I sometimes gulp and create gas, I wonder if I would not be better off with a straw again! Feeling great, and looking forward to the journey!!

Many doctors don't want us using straws. Something about swallowing too much air. I don't use a straw but when I do I don't notice any difference in trapped air?

My daughter is a germ-a-phobe and refuses to drink without a straw unless it's bottled Water.

I had epidural cortisone injections in my back not to long ago & after I came to in recovery ,they asked me if I wanted some juice ,not thinking I of course thought I would just have 2 sips ,well they put a straw in it & remember I wasn't thinking I haven't drank through a straw in 2 yrs, well I took 2 sips & had to ask for a spit bucket ,because the stuck, air, slime episode happened ,I won't do that again, I hope.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
