Hello, I'm new... from San Jose, California :-)

Recommended Posts

Hi all. My name is Tonya. I'm a 31 year old female living in San Jose, California. I was banded last week (Wednesday). I had a starting weight of 265 pounds (5'3" tall) and had been dieting and exercising (AGAIN, as usual) since the end of February. My pre-op weight was 245 pounds. Since surgery last week, I have lost 11 pounds. My goal is to lose about 85 more pounds. The first few days post-op, I didn't feel hungry and was barely taking in 200 calories a day. Now my appetite has returned and I am doing a little better. I am having problems with hunger though. My post-op diet is supposed to be liquids for 2 weeks, then the 3rd week soft foods, then on to solids on the 4th week. The liquids feel me but within a half hour to an hour, I am feeling hungry again and am just going crazy with this liquid diet. Any suggestions? Okay, what else am I supposed to write??? :)

Welcome Tonya.

You may want to go and hang out with the May Bandsters. They have a thread going in the General Lap Band area.

Congratulations on your banding!

Hey, I'm in SJ too. How long did it take to get approved & thru what insurance? How long were you in the hospital?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
