Please tell me this is normal

Recommended Posts

I am almost 4 months post op, i have been feeling wonderful , exercising a lot, eating everything according to plan, and then boom one day a few weeks ago my hair starts falling out, which i was expecting and i know is normal, i saw the PA at my drs office she says don't worry it will stop soon and new hair will grow in, and then following that ive been feeling very tired and my sleep has been almost non existent, i am tired during the day and sleepless at night. during my workouts i have no energy, i work at a medical office so i decided to re run my blood tests that i did before my 3 month check up just 2 weeks ago and my thyroid that ive neverrr had issues with and was perfect 3 weeks ago is all out of wack. is this common after surgery? since it all hit at once i wonder if the thyroid has to do with the Hair loss, tiredness etc....

It's going to be hard to distinguish what's doin what exactly but I have thyroid disease an have dealt with losing hair for yrs an I mean 15 to 20 yrs..although you'd never no it I have so much..but thyroid is a big culprit. Most drs just go by the standard tsh test. ..you need more done. The T3, T4, and reverse T3..but that's just me. I like a FUNCTIONAL Dr..they do more then mainstream drs. I am going to my endocrinologist tomorrow first visit since surgery an I'm requesting these same test..if she says it's not needed. .oh yes it is..I'll not do the test thru her an go to my functional. Thyroid will cause all them symptoms you said..hope you get answers an feel better.as far as normal to change like that after surgery someone else will have to give some insight on that one. Or Google it or there might be a section on that somewhere on here..:)

thanks! yes it seems we're in different boats, ive never had this issue before and seeing that it started almost exact same time as Hair loss and tiredness i wonder if its related. good luck to u!

I think sometimes the trauma our bodies experience during surgery can set off a latent issue that would have come to light eventually. Once you get your thyroid meds at the right level, you will feel much better.

Thats my issue Amy, i have never been on thyroid meds and have never had a thyroid problem....and i have all these random symptoms at once...can this be a post op problem?

i should also mention that when i took the second blood it was my TOM, a medical friend of mine seems to think this would also make a difference.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
