Had my surgery 3 weeks ago today have lost 13 pounds. That's approximately 4 pounds a week . What is wrong with me why do others lose more ? I'm on full fluids 6-800 calories per day so discouraged

4lbs a week is 2-3 lbs above the recommended amount a person should lose a week. 4lbs a week isn't slow. I know it seems like a lot of people drop SERIOUS weight in the first few weeks but not all of us do. You CANNOT make your body do what it isn't going to do so, in order to NOT go insane, keep your eyes on your own paper. Look at your own history, your own journey, your own success. You're down 13lbs from your surgery date and that's fantastic. I NEVER more than 2 or 3 lbs a week after my first week post op. NEV. ER. But now I am down 102lbs. You will keep losing!

You are right on track. Keep your thoughts positive, follow the rules, do the work. your sleeve is WORKING. Also keep in mind you may be dropping inches, and probably from places you don't even realize like ankles, wrists, knees. One of the first things I noticed, 4 days post op is that it no longer hurt like hell to climb the stairs. Start counting your NSV's and relax. It's working.

you are a LOSER!!! that's what counts. you're doing great, keep it up and keep your eyes on the big picture.

From your picture, even though it is tiny, you don't appear to have a very high BMI, that is another factor. You also have to get ready for your 3rd / 4th week weight loss stall that almost all of us experienced. That scale can even go up during that time because your body is rebuilding the glycogen stores it initially metabolized. Just be patient. Remember, in order to lose 1lb you have to burn 3500 calories. Take a look at something called your BMR which is your basal metabolic rate, this is how many calories you burn just being you, without exercise. For heavier people it takes more energy to keep us alive so we burn sometimes 2k or more a day just breathing, digesting food, and sleeping. A lighter person may only burn 1500. If you are eating about 800 calories a day and burning say 1500, you are creating an average deficit of 700 calories a day. (700 calories a day times 7 days in a week = 4900 calories burned off. That's only just over a lb which is what normal people lose on diets. ) We are all doing much better than that.

I hadn't even thought about the BMR. .girl your doing great! Don't compare! ! I agree with the other comments. Be doing the happy dance! That's 13 pds lighter!! Hang in there..you lose everyday. Maybe ounces but it's a loss..:)

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
