Recommended Posts

Wondering if there are any pre/post op Seattle sleevers out there? I'm pre op but scheduled for surgery in early January. Would love to connect with a local group. :)

Welcome to the boards!

I am near Seattle...there are quite a few here from the area. So far we haven't done a support group meeting.

Many of the hospitals support groups allow everyone to join. Example I know the group at overlake and i am pretty sure Swedish are open to everyone. I had my surgery at PSSC IN Edmonds - great experience, but I never got into their support group. Where are you going for surgery?

CGJ I figured you were from Texas:) Have you not mentioned being kind of isolated? As for this post there is a great group that meets once a week in Everett Wa. At NWWLC. There are both moring and evening suort groups. For anyone living in this area the support group is open to all. Drop me a line if you want more information of google NWWLC. Great staff, love these guys.

Thanks! I live on the eastside. I have lots of friends and a busy social life, I was feeling isolated because I wasn't used to living alone and I work from home. My son is back from school and I am doing okay. I am almost 3 years post op -December- and haven't done the in person support groups really. I found the one at overlake very helpful preop though!

I'm also on the eastside. I was a self-pay sleeve on 8/25 at Swedish First Hill. I am going to try and hit up their Issaquah support group this month and see what it's like.

Kate! How are you feeling/doing? I think personal support face to face is so important (for me at least!) I'd love to get a group going...

I'm doing well! I could not be more pleased with my surgery and steady progress so far, and I feel terrific. I agree about Face to face support being important. Do you. Do you have a date yet?

Great! How are you doing/feeling? Thinking about starting a small support group locally if you are interested...once a month. :)

Does south King County count as Seattle? ????. I was sleeved at PSSC on the 28th of August.

Of course! That's so awesome! How are you doing?

For the most part, I'm doing good. I get tired very easy and I'm in the middle of a stall. I've lost 18 pounds total and I'm looking forward to even more.

I'd love to be part of a support group of Seattle sleevers.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
