Is anyone out there in "The Green Zone?"

Recommended Posts

Does "The Green Zone" really exist? I am about 2 months post-op with 2 small fills. I watch what I eat, and I am thankful for my lap band. But there are days when I get hungry an hour or two after I eat... I stick to Protein and count calories. What I'm asking is, will there really come a day when I will have a meal and then be satisfied for up to 4 hours until my next meal? It sounds hard to believe considering the struggles I am having. Thanks.

I just got my fourth fill. After the third fill, I lost 16 lbs. Prior to that, 1lb! I told me doc then that I felt like I was on a diet and the band wasn't working. He said it will -- and I'd know it.

Well, it happened. Am I in the green zone yet? Don't think so.... But getting closer.

Hang in there!

Yes, it does exist for some of us. On the way to it, lots and lots of things and habits are examined, changed, discarded, new behaviors and thoughts to replace them. I hope you are one who gets to the green zone, it may take a few more fills, I've seen as high as six on this site before, some providers do more at a quicker pace than others. Try to really focus on what you are learning along the way, I'm directing that right back to myself as well. :-)

It certainly does, and I have happily been there for almost 3 years now without a single problem.

Getting there was the most frustrating, but once I was, and I learned how to cope with it, everything has been clear simple sailing.

The green zone does exist and you will get there. It may take some time and patience but you will get there. It took 7 fills for me to get there. I am quite happy where I am now. I can eat a very small meal, mostly Protein, and be completely satisfied for several hours. Some days, I don't even really get hungry. This thing really does work!

Including the 2 weeks pre-op diet I've lost 50 pounds. My tickers are current. I update the weight after every doctor visit/fill. My next dr/fill appointment is on the 25th of this month. I also walk 5-6 days a week. I'm happy with my weight loss, it's just the hunger I have been experiencing between meals. thanks.

I'm narrowing in on green but not quite there yet. However I do have many many days where I am completely satisfied four hours between meals. If. If. If that meal was high in Protein and if. If. If it's not head hunger messing me up. For example I had lots of head hunger this month. I know it because real hunger feels different. Real hunger starts with a grumbling in my belly and a gnawing empty feeling and funny enough is not always accompanied by appetite. Head hunger is edgy antsy I gotta eat something even if I just ate something five minutes ago. It's restless and has nothing at all to do with satiety or nutrition.

We will battle head hunger forever. I'm learning tools to fight it. I'm just very grateful my band truly helps with the real hunger.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
