Just gonna ask...farting

Recommended Posts

I realize in the beginning after surgery we are all gassy. My husband (God love him) now says I fart louder than anyone he's ever heard and he wants to know if this is the new normal in our house. I have 2 friends who have the band and one said yes and the other says no. My hubby doesn't care if this is forever because at 45 he still giggles at farts. I'm almost month post-op. Thanks for any input regarding one's output (his joke he wanted included with the question)

Yep, I believe it might be the new norm.

Although there was more music than usual right after surgery, today things are generally quiet. Except for stomach gurgles. Don't get me started on those.

OMG....I fart all the damn time. Even if I try to hold it in, I can't. Sometimes when I walk in the hallway at work, I'm tooting away and just praying no one hears it.

It is the new normal for us ,it subsidies a bit after a little while , but my family & friends know when I say my band is playing today they know what I mean , but luckily & I have told them my s__t doesn't stink I would be so embarrassed if it did because when my band wants to play there's no stopping it , so everyone I know got used to it , but you will still have gurggles & flatulence it also depends on what I eat.

I can deal with the gurgle. I can even deal with the toots it just the toots that get stuck. Oh how miserable that makes me. It usually only happens when I am at work and eat too much or too fast...

Never ever passed gas prior to being banded. Now? Every.single.second of the day I could pass gas. I speculate it is the food fermenting, since it just sits longer in our pouch/stomach and becomes it's own methane production lab.

I finally had to get over the shame of it and now just release at will when at home. "It's medically necessary," I tell my family.

I fart and burp all the time, it is crazy because before I was so polite, always being a lady when it comes to burping and farting, now I am a trucker, all i said is sorry I have a medical condition... I stop going to my hairdresser for 13 years because she couldn't stand my burping... But is my life if you don't like me because i burp and fart you wont be part of my life. My husband and daughter are totally ok with it, the rest of the world does not concern me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
