My 60th birthday gift to me.....

Recommended Posts

Yes I'm turning 60 and fought the fat all my days....My joints are killing me with the extra weight. I want to do all the fun things I missed through the years...like riding a bike, going for horseback rides, boating, and dancing. I want to be more of a service to others and not be encumbered by my weight. I want to enjoy walking and not feeling like I'm going to die before I find a chair. I want to be light and free feeling.....! I want to be everything I was created to be, before I die. I am truely thankful for the oppurtunity to be lap banded....I am being banded on the 8th of May. I'm nervous about the surgery, but again thankful for this oppurtunity. Shar

Excellent decision, Shar. I'll be 60 in June and was banded April 10. Why the heck didn't we do this years ago?? Oh well, better late than never. We still have many thin years ahead of us! Won't it be wonderful??:biggrin1:

The day is coming quickly for surgery....yikes....! I am in a daze .....it just seems its not me that this is going to happen to. I cheated yesterday and ate a "last meal". Boy, I could beat myself up for that one, but its past and I'm moving on. I just feel at this moment that I'm never going to be anything different....just a fat me with food for a cruch..will these feelings go away? I totally feel depressed today. I know I should feel up....but struggeling for so long and having so many failures.....will this be another? I'm just real concerned. Shar

You are just having all the emotional ups and downs we all go through. Yes, it will work for you if you follow the rules of banding. In the meantime, read all the threads on here and you'll learn a lot of valuable information plus it will keep you busy and you won't worry as much!:(:) :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
